We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jo Ellen Newman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jo Ellen below.
Jo Ellen, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
At the heart of my coaching philosophy is the transformative power of evidence-based mindset shifts and attitudes. With each session, I guide my clients through a process of identifying and cultivating these shifts, creating tangible markers of personal growth and change. This deliberate approach not only allows clients to recognize and celebrate their progress but also ensures my accountability in facilitating meaningful transformation.
Central to my coaching methodology is the concept of guiding individuals to embrace new perspectives and ways of thinking. Over time, this consistent practice results in remarkable cognitive changes—akin to ‘retraining the brain.’ This is rooted in the fascinating phenomenon of neuroplasticity, where the brain’s neural connections adapt and strengthen in response to repeated patterns of thought and behavior.
Through our collaborative work, I empower clients to develop a ‘neural muscle’ for embracing fresh thoughts and perspectives. This is a gradual process that occurs across sessions, ultimately fostering a robust neural framework capable of sustaining and reinforcing positive changes in thinking. The deliberate repetition of evidence-based techniques not only ensures immediate progress but also encourages the brain’s remarkable ability to rewire itself over time.
In essence, my coaching goes beyond merely imparting wisdom; it’s a dynamic journey that involves intentionally nurturing a new mental landscape. By utilizing evidence-based techniques and harnessing the principles of neuroplasticity, I help clients build the cognitive foundation necessary to consistently think from a different and more empowering perspective. This isn’t just about short-term adjustments—it’s about crafting lasting change by cultivating a resilient and adaptable mindset.
Jo Ellen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I feel like I’ve lived a vibrant tapestry of life, and hopefully captivating. I am the visionary force behind Transformational Coaching by Jo. I’ve experienced the joy of sun-soaked streets of a posh Ft. Lauderdale suburb, lived a block from Paul McCartney’s London home and down the block from Abby Road studios. Yes, we often had tourists in front of our London home just because of the location. Totally cool though. And I’ve continued on to commanding the helm of my groundbreaking coaching enterprise, my voyage has been an expression of my unwavering dedication, exploration, and profound personal evolution.
Hailing from a background deeply rooted in the healthcare industry, my trajectory might seem to defy convention. My youthful days were sprinkled with the cheer of softball and the exuberance of being a cheerleader, until I charted my course to become a nurse. Fate, however, had bigger designs for me. As a nurse on a cruise ship, I’ve tasted the thrill of journeying to far-flung lands, soaking in the rich diversity of cultures both onboard and on distant shores.
Through the years, my ambitions sailed to remarkable heights. From tending to the emergency rooms of the nation as a Vice President to embracing the expatriate life in England, my path seemed like a symphony of learning, growth, and exploration. I even studied at the College of Psychic Studies in London, at the time, was only one of a few certified academic centers for learning metaphysics in the world. But amidst these accomplishments, a whisper grew louder within her, beckoning me towards a new purpose.
That whisper gave birth to Transformational Coaching by Jo, a haven for women, entrepreneurs, and visionary spirits yearning for change. Armed with a treasure trove of left-brain expertise cultivated over four decades, my transition from the corporate corridors to coaching domains seemed like a natural evolution. My intuition, once suppressed, emerged as a formidable force, fusing seamlessly with her cerebral skills..
This harmonious blend between logic and intuition allowed me to embark on a mission to guide others toward their brilliance. I’m multi-certified as a business and life coach and metaphysical modalities, that seems to stem from my unique ability to alchemize intellect and intuition into transformative strategies. I illuminate the path for those grappling with career perplexities or entrepreneurial challenges, infusing every interaction with a profound understanding of individuality. Clients are given tools they can use for a lifetime.
In this sanctuary of empowerment, I offer personalized 1:1 coaching, invigorating workshops, and insightful group sessions. And on the horizon, the promise of live and evergreen e-courses awaits. My approach, hopefully at this stage of my life, my work is like an artisan, crafting not just businesses, but self-aware, resilient individuals poised for unparalleled success. The essence of my coaching rests in the belief that self-discovery is the key to unlocking untapped potential and unexplored profits using BOTH sides of the brain. Creativity and Logic can marry and be fruitful.
At the heart of ‘Transformational Coaching by Jo’ lies my aspiration to empower uniqueness and magnificence. I envision a world where every one of my clients revel in expansion, foster collaboration, and harvest sustainable outcomes. I hope my legacy isn’t just about professional prowess; it’s about the transformation of lives and the creation of an enduring ripple effect.
Off-duty, my passions continue seem to be as varied as this entrepreneurial journey. You might find me engrossed in the pages of a book, traversing new landscapes, or engaging in spirited play with her brilliant sheltie. As a self-professed nerd, my love for learning knows no bounds.
I feel like my story is an odyssey of rediscovering the self, of honing a craft that bridges the realms of business and personal growth. It’s a tale of nurturing dreams, mastering transitions, and creating my own personal symphony of empowerment that resonates across time and space. I ask people to trust themselves when they step into the world of Transformational Coaching by Jo, and let the journey to your best self begin.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
**I wrote this in 3rd person. It can be changed to 1st person, just depends on how you want the story to be read.**
Resilience isn’t just a word in Jo Ellen’s story; it’s the steadfast rhythm that has defined her journey from the very beginning. Born into a world without a father’s presence, she learned to navigate life’s uncharted waters with an empathic heart. The tragic loss of her father at a young age became the first chapter of her saga, leaving her mother to remarry into a family shadowed by substance abuse and complexities. Yet, in the midst of turmoil, Jo Ellen’s spirit remained undaunted.
Her adult life was no less demanding. Fueled by determination, she forged her path through the thicket of adversity. Starting college meant borrowing money, and with unwavering tenacity, she juggled full-time work as an LPN while ascending the academic ladder to become an RN. Financial struggles and a past laden with mistakes were no match for her willpower. She understood that the road to success wasn’t always smooth; it was paved with lessons of perseverance.
Marriage brought its own challenges. Anchored to a partner who urged her to forgo personal dreams, she confronted a pivotal crossroads when a near-death experience shook her existence. Faced with the fragile precipice between life and oblivion, Jo Ellen resolved to live her aspirations unapologetically. A newfound resolve illuminated her path as she plunged into further education, embracing the pursuit of her dreams without permission or validation.
With degrees in hand and the echoes of past pain propelling her forward, Jo Ellen’s trajectory took flight. Her thirst for self-discovery led her to the metaphysical realm, nurturing her intuitive prowess. Embracing her intuitive self was akin to opening a treasure chest of hidden gems that had long been suppressed. But it wasn’t merely about self-exploration; it was about taking the wisdom she had amassed and sharing it with the world.
Each phase of her life had cultivated resilience, a silent companion that carried her through doubts and despair. Never had she considered herself resilient; she was too immersed in the rhythm of her pursuit. It wasn’t about being done; it was about the thirst for more authenticity, more experiences, more impact. Jo Ellen’s story wasn’t about meeting external expectations; it was about aligning with her core and radiating that light outwards.
With an MBA in business and a profound affinity for the intuitive, Jo Ellen shaped her coaching agency into a sanctuary of empowerment. She had become a beacon of resilience, transforming life’s challenges into stepping stones to greatness. Her journey wasn’t linear; it was a tapestry woven with threads of vulnerability, strength, and an unwavering belief in the beauty of each sunrise.
Today, Jo Ellen stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit that refuses to bend in the face of adversity. She epitomizes the truth that resilience isn’t a trait; it’s a narrative, an ongoing tale of triumphs that dance alongside tribulations. Her guiding philosophy, “Every day is a holiday and a day of thanksgiving,” reverberates as a call to celebrate life’s complexities and embrace each morning as an opportunity for renewed discovery. Jo Ellen’s story isn’t just one of resilience; it’s an ode to the enduring spirit that propels her towards ever-new horizons.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn how to stop spending money and really get clear on what the RIGHT things were critically needed in order to successfully move my business forward to a profit system and financially sound.
So what did I do that was redundant? I changed web site systems pretty often instead of working with a specialist to really help me deliver what I envisioned. I used various CRM’s, too many to count, until I decided I really liked the beauty of Flodesk. Some of these back and forth decisions didn’t always cost a lot of cash but it did take my TIME to learn a new system. That really reflects I was working in my business, not on it such as building clients, programs or offerings that I truly envisioned. In other words, it really was costing me money.
I’ve used various technologies, such as Canva, Calendly, Flodesk and Stripe & Paypal that have sustained me up to now. I don’t think I will ever give up Canva. Love the creativity this tool offers, especially someone who is not very artistic.
