Alright, J’nee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is that dance has always been a huge part of my life and I want to help spread that joy to others. I recognize the potential in each one of my students. With my customizable approach, I’ve seen my students’ self-esteem and skill-set consistently rise. I love what I do and it makes me happy to be able to share my passion with others. Since starting Strut With J’nee, my results are a testament to the fact that my system works. I’m a patient, adaptable, and professional Dance Instructor ready to help you reach your goals. Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is J’nee Adams and I am the owner of Strut With J’nee – a confidence building heels dance class where our motto is “F*** it up with confidence.” I got into this industry about 4 years ago as a weekly heels instructor. I’ve been dancing since I was 3 years old and have always had a passion for teaching dance to others no matter the age. After dancing for teams and professional companies all the way through college, I thought I wanted to take a break from dance to explore other options in life. Boy was I wrong!!! I experienced the worst year of my life in 2017 after having a miscarriage, and kept asking myself what makes me happy (as I was unaware of my purpose and needed to find myself again) The one thing I knew that always made me feel good was dance. So I decided to start teaching a heels based dance class on January 29th, 2018. The response I received from men and women over the years has been simply amazing. Dance is such a freeing outlet, that opens its arms to any and everybody, I wanted to be sure that I bring that same excitement and no judgment zone to my classes as well. I’ve met so many people throughout this journey, some who I call my closest friends! Throughout the years, my title has grown from choreographer/instructor, to creative director, talent agent and performance coach. I have choreographed for different local artist in Houston and other near by cities. I have my own talent agency, where artist can book dancers for different musical events such as music videos, performances, and weddings!
I am currently teaching at two of the most popular dance studios in the city – Something New Dance and Soreal Dance Studio.
I am most proud of the fact that I incorporate my dance technique background in every class I teach. Because I am technically trained, I make sure that my students are getting the proper knowledge needed to execute certain dance moves correctly versus just getting a cute routine to post on social media. This is what sets me apart from everyone else. We are going to have a cute routine and have the proper technique with it!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The pandemic definitely helped build my reputation within my market. Everyone was tired of sitting at home and wanted some fun exercises to be apart of. During that time, I started having online classes to stay in touch with my core clientele and to appeal to a bigger audience. My clientele grew tremendously within the first two months of everything reopening. That year was a really good year for me.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That you can not please every one. I started my business trying to cater to a certain demographic who were not as technically trained as I am, and it made me hold back with the message I was trying to portray to my clientele. The pandemic gave me the opportunity to do a little rebranding and really push technique as the forefront of my style in this industry. It allowed people to know off top what they were getting themselves into and it’s what helped me land a weekly spot at the number one studio on the city, Soreal Dance Studio.
