We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jnana Lewis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jnana, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Truthfully, every opportunity I get to offer yoga or flow within community are defining moments for me. Being able to connect with myself and others on a spiritual level is very humbling. Yoga is a sacred act of movement, meditation, and connection; to be able to share that amongst others drives me to pursue teaching yoga. I define yoga as a gift that harmonizes souls in pure love and unity. My ability to adorn yoga in my own fashion inspired me to go beyond traditional yoga and step into children’s yoga. My own life’s journey has contributed to my desire to expand children’s yoga amongst community spaces. Becoming a mother has taught me so much about myself, it has reignited my child-like flame as well as strengthen my connection with my inner child. In turn, that has reshaped my approach to the space I hold in the world of yoga. Instructing children’s yoga pushes me to stay true to myself, abandon my comfort zone, and listen to my heart. In order to thrive in this industry, I must accept that time and patience are vital tools needed in order to expand my vision. My goal is to use this gift to magnify the voices of our children. My mission is to create a space where children are seen, felt, and heard. I will cultivate a safe space where children can embrace their divine nature and authentically express themselves. I want them to feel at home when they use their voices freely, move their bodies intentionally, and awaken their powerful inner strength.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Jnana, I’m a creative and visionary. I began to walk the yogi path back in 2020. It was my saving grace. I’ve lived a lot of my life in survival mode. I was caught in a spiral of trauma, fear, depression, and despair. One day I realized that I was not born to suffer. I was called to reclaim my life. I craved something irreplaceable; true love, safety, and joy within my own body. These desires led to my pursuit of yoga. Through out my journey, I bore witness to the healing of my mind, body, and spirit. I was impressed at how applying importance to the, “mind-body connection” aspect of yoga was so beneficial to my wellbeing. Now I am actively using tools I’ve acquired from my own experience to assist others on their healing journey’s with the power of yoga. I’ve revealed an improved side of yoga. This empowers my students to nurture their inner child while they foster honest connection with themselves and community. I am proud to demonstrate freedom and resilience within the work I do to facilitate yoga. I am even happier to share this among the world of children’s yoga.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
As I continue to pursue the field of children’s yoga I am learning that patience, determination, and resilience are most helpful in succeeding with my niche. The field of western yoga is very competitive and in order to achieve the success I desire I must define success for myself without comparing myself to others. I have to remain open minded and truly believe that I have what it takes to bring my vision to life. Most of all, I must embrace the failures I face along way.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I had the opportunity to go back in time I would definitely embark on the yogi path many times over. Yoga saved my life, it brought me to heights that I never dreamed imaginable. Yoga led me to appreciate my mind, body, and soul in such a holy way. Yoga has assisted me on my spiritual journey as well as awaken me to my inner strength. Now I have the ability to do the same for others. Giving back a gift of this magnitude to the world is truly astounding. It is one of my greatest achievements so far.
