We recently connected with JK WONG and have shared our conversation below.
JK, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I came to the USA and started a new life 8 years ago. I was having a international student visa. I had lived in SF, shot a lot with the models in the Bay Area and then I moved to Las Vegas to seek out more opportunities. After shooting for 3 years in both places I eventually moved to LA and hoping to really start my career. When I first came to LA I have no idea how to market myself. One hilarious thing was, I even print out some paper about myself and started going on street and hand those paper to people and trying to get myself some clients, that project failed of course. About a year ago my friends recommended me to start doing social media and post my work on it, especially the behind the scenes videos on my social account. This project becoming one of the most successful projects I’ve done, A month ago I got 5 million views on my account and I got lots of supports from my followers. I got fancy magazine editor reached out to me and wanted to work with me. I got clients from my social media account too.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Chinese-born, Los Angeles based fashion photographer JK Wong is not one to shy away from being bold and dramatic. Exaggerated poses, saturated colors, orgasmic expressions layered onto fantasies with a sexual undertones. JK’s images are an euphoric experience. She sees her photography as a way to celebrate the female form and fashion, giving fashion clients an opportunity to elevate the women they dress as playful and desirable but also powerful and hungry.
JK is one of China’s rising stars. Her imagery can be also found in Vogue, covers of Harpers Bazaar, Playboy, Lofficiel, Glamour, Grazia, and others.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Honestly for me its about freedom. One day I can be fully inspired and go out and shoot. One another day I can just go to the beach and sit in front of the ocean and just think about nothing, Also I can manage time better that I dont have to always go to work M to F 9 to 5.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to shoot the cover of Vogue US
