We caught up with the brilliant and insightful JJ Hardy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

JJ, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.

The big risk I took was when I decided to leave my job and start a business. It definitely was not an easy decision to make but I knew it was time. I was lucky enough to work for a company that knew it was my time to go. I helped them create a leadership development program and always had a passion for developing the people in my organization on the principles of leadership! They knew that starting a business is something that I wanted to do and they supported me in that decision.

Now that I have started my own coaching and training business, it has been the most rewarding thing that I have ever done! I love helping others and this has been a wonderful outlet to get paid for doing it!

JJ, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is JJ Hardy. I served in the US Army and Retired in 2018. Though my military career was in transportation logistics management, I was always a fan of the leadership development that took place because I saw how it made a difference in the quality of the people! This is why I decided to start a business where I coach and train leaders! It is not just a business for me, it is a passion. I believe that if leaders have the ability to learn the basics and have someone guide them through implementation, there is a very high probability of success! This is what sets me apart from others. I have been there and done that. Now it is time to impart my knowledge on to others.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I actually just recently started building my social media audience. To some, it may not seem like a lot, but I was able to grow my audience of people in my target market to a Facebook group from 0 to 140 in 1 month.

My strategy was the same as the way you should network in the community, your opportunities are just larger.

Here it is:

I look for groups that I will most likely find my target market, and where I can learn something valuable for myself, then I join them. I engage on as many posts as I can that are not my own, then I post something that will get a ton of chatter. This can be a question, or it can be a comment. Once people start engaging in my post, I offer them another group to join. If they seem interested, I get them on a call to screen them and get to know them and then I share a link to my Facebook group.

I post multiple live trainings, offers, and regular posts to keep the people in my group talking and to see who is interested in any of my services. This has been a great method for growing my Leadership Round Tables.
