We recently connected with Jiya Monee and have shared our conversation below.
Jiya , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
I had the thought my business in September of 2022, I didn’t really act on it until October 2022. I had just quit my full time serving job at twin peaks, a sophomore in college getting ready to come back home for 2 months because my lease was ending and the earliest time I could move into somewhere was January 2023,. I feel like starting earlier would’ve prevented me from wasting so much time in school doing something that I never wanted to do anyway. Looking back I’m actually glad that I was able to see what I didn’t want to do in life to push myself to see what I actually wanted to do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I feel like I was born into this industry, my grandma is a licensed cosmetologist of 43 years and counting so I basically grew up in a hair salon. My mom also went to cosmetology school after completing she decided she wanted to do something else. Fun fact i actually never wanted to do hair but what pushed me so hard was when i used to dread going to work and just having a job be able to tell you what to do, that’s when i knew i had to start somewhere. Discipline is VERY important in the entrepreneur world, the money is so fast you make it back as soon as you spend it until you don’t. It’s important to find simple saving methods to make sure you always have something to fall back on. As of now i only provide weave/ wig services as in sew ins, quick weaves, frontal wig installs, pony tails basically all things WEAVE. What I feel like sets me apart from others is that I’m patient with my clients, I respond to every question that they may have because you will sometimes have clients who genuinely don’t know, it doesn’t hurt to help. A lot of times we can become big headed because we are business owners but always remember you need customers to make money! I’m most proud of how I moved back home and have been on go since I feel unstoppable like I’m always in 1st place, I’m in my own lane I don’t watch and copy others because comparison is the thief of joy.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
SOCIAL MEDIA, it’s all in your own hands!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Word of mouth from loyal clients, when you have a solid clientele your clients will speak for you.
