We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jirah Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jirah, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I always knew that when it came to content creation almost anybody can sit in front of a camera, but not just anyone can edit and make that raw footage and turn it into a movie. I knew that there were always going to be content creators in need of an editor, so I took advantage of this and quickly monetized my skill and managed to secure 5 full-time clients under my belt in my first month of business.
Also, I co-own my company called “Wealth University” where me and my 3 business partners (Trevon Frugé, Sharriff Dyer II, Marquis Spivey) run a discord and teach people multiple ways to make money. Whether it’s a career path in Tech Sales, or venturing into side hustles such as E-Commerce, Stock Investments, Amazon FBA, and soon I will be teaching my own section in the discord teaching people how to become editors and gain clients to start an editing business or to just edit their own content to build their personal brand.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jirah Wilson and I am a nineteen year old entrepreneur from Kent, Washington. I own my own editing business where I work with content-creators by editing their videos to ensure they’re releasing the best content possible for their audience. I offer freelance work, but I also offer a monthly service in which I edit however many videos for a fee. I’ve worked with some of the biggest and best creators in many different niches from Health/Beauty, Business, Entertainment, etc. If you’re looking for a young editor with a fresh perspective on content creation with a plethora of ideas flowing every single day then I’m your guy.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Honestly, I pride myself in breathing life and energy into any room I walk in by just being myself. And I don’t treat my business and my clients any differently than that, My clients see the love and effort I put into my work, and honestly I’ve been told many times that they choose to work with me not only because of my excellent work but because of who I am as a person.
So my goal every time I encounter someone whether it’s business related or not is I want to impact you in a positive way no matter if it’s big or small. It also helps that I genuinely love what I do because elevating others with my editing elevates myself and so it’s a win/win situation every time.
I’ve done that since day one and I’ve made myself so valuable I’ve become priceless to the eyes of my clients and business partners.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Definitely by networking with people. The saying “Your network is your net worth” is cliche but it’s true. Building trusting relationships in the content creation industry has gotten me very far, I made sure to put my very all into every video I edited for my clients because I knew that with every video one of my clients posted there could be a potential client watching it.
