We were lucky to catch up with Jingrao Guo recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jingrao, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

When I was a child, I had a passion for drawing. I loved using my paintbrush to narrate the stories in my heart and to express my emotions through art. However, until I entered university, I always considered drawing as merely a hobby. It wasn’t until one day, while sitting in a college classroom studying subjects that failed to captivate my interest, that I flipped through the personal worldview and plot-setting book I had been writing since high school. Suddenly, I realized that I still yearned to share stories and creativity with others through my drawings. It was at that moment when I made the firm decision to officially become an illustrator.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Illustration. My expertise includes creating illustrations, children’s book illustrations, and comics. Inspired by the style of Japanese manga, my artwork leans towards this direction. I excel in intricate drawings and rich linework, often incorporating many details into my pieces.

As an illustrator, I strive to convey stories and emotions through my work. I enjoy crafting various characters and settings to immerse viewers in imaginative and magical worlds. My unique and vibrant painting style allows me to express emotions and atmospheres through color and line.

I offer services such as illustration production, character design, children’s book illustrations, and comic creation to clients. Through my artwork, I aim to meet clients’ needs for storytelling and visual communication, adding distinctive visual appeal and expression to their projects.

What I am most proud of is continually exploring different forms of expression within my illustration style and striving to elevate my work to new levels. Through my art, I hope to convey the passion and dedication of my creative process and provide people with unique charm and visual enjoyment. I want to showcase a fresh world to readers of all ages through my work, allowing them to experience various emotions and immerse themselves in a world full of imagination.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

My creative journey actually began in junior high school when I started conceptualizing an expansive adventure story. In this story, there are various characters with different personalities, experiencing many interesting and diverse events. My goal is to one day share these stories, which currently only exist in my mind, with more people through illustrations. I hope this imaginative world can be seen by many others. I wish for this story to bring different people emotions of inspiration, joy, youthfulness, and happiness.
