We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful JING JU. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JING below.
JING, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful project I’ve worked on is Miss Circle’s Sensorial Flagship Store as my JUJU studio’s first permanent retail project in New York City, it marked a pivotal moment in translating our vision of sensorial storytelling into a lasting spatial experience. Working closely with the brand, I designed a space where every visitor feels like a star, immersed in warmth, drama, and elegance. From concept to completion, this project challenged myself to break away from conventional retail tropes and craft an inviting, theatrical environment that reflects both the brand’s identity and our design ethos.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Jing, founder and Design Director of Juju Studio, a New York-based spatial design practice that brings stories to life through immersive physical experiences. I was born and raised in China in the 90s where I was deeply influenced by my entrepreneurial parents who built their own firm from the ground up. At Juju Studio, we design spaces that speak. Our services span retail environments, experiential events, art installations, and set design. Whether it’s a fashion show for an emerging designer, an immersive pop-up for a major tech brand, or an interactive cultural installation, we approach each project as a story to be told through space, emotion, and experience. We help brands communicate who they are, not just with visuals, but through atmosphere, movement, and human connection strategy. What sets us apart is the blend of strategy and storytelling, artistry and execution. I’m proudest when our work sparks real feeling- whether it’s awe, curiosity, or joy, and when clients say, “this space *feels* like us.” I want potential clients to know: at Juju, we don’t just build spaces. We build experiences people remember.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One story that shaped me and tested my resilience was during the early days of starting Juju Studio.I landed a high-stakes flagship store project for a fashion brand, exciting, yet filled with challenges. The timeline was tight, the budget limited, and the client frequently changed direction. I wore every hat: concept designer, production coordinator- even cleaning the floors before opening. Midway through, the carpet was fabricated in the wrong dimensions, and the curtain contractor missed their deadline. I scrambled to source local curtain options within 48 hours. I worked 18-hour days, negotiated with vendors at midnight. But we pulled it off. The store opened on time and was a success—and I emerged stronger, more resourceful, and ready to build something bold from scratch.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to challenge the conventional idea of what “good design” looks like. It’s not just about aesthetics or trends; it’s about creating work that reflects values, evokes feeling, and fosters real connection between people and brands. I’m especially passionate about working with clients who are unafraid to take risks and push boundaries, not just for the sake of novelty, but to build something meaningful. Ultimately, I want my work to be a reminder that design can be both strategic and poetic—and that beauty and intention can (and should) coexist.
