We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jineen Glover a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jineen , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Most of my life I’ve felt misunderstood or misrepresented. I am a 4 on the enneagram and that can be a struggle for people like me. We have creative ways of showing up in the world whether that be our style, our clothes, our hair, our art, or our way of carrying ourselves. People have judged my multiple selfie pics at times and I’m here promoting my gray hair and all that it represents for me and other women! It says it’s ok to age as a woman and women are still beautiful with gray hair! We don’t have to continue to cover it up and be afraid to be our unique selves! It’s just another color and we have so much life to still live even after 45! Don’t be afraid to live your authentic life!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started this gray haired journey shaving my head for my niece going through cancer and donated my hair to Children with Hair Loss. I decided to let my silver hair finally come out and stopped hiding that I now had a full head of gray hair! I’ve tried to encourage many women to not be afraid of where they are at in midlife and even if they’ve gained some weight! Life is about accepting ourselves and others right where we are at, living in the moment of here and now!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I began I just posted something everyday. I would share real things about my life, quotes that inspired me and words of encouragement to others. The key is being authentic and consistent, I believe. People want to connect with real people that are relatable and I think that is key!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing is bringing what only you can bring to something! You have your own unique gifts and talents and perspective on the world! You matter and what you want to say and share matters! I think it’s so important to never stop being creative and never compare your gifts to others because yours are meant for you to use in just the way that you do!
