We recently connected with Jimy Bousek and have shared our conversation below.
Jimy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always wanted to dedicate myself professionally to music, and although it has been difficult to me sometimes, I believe that the most important thing is todo do what you love with passion, pushing beyond your own limits. That’s what I’ve tried to do since I started in music when I was a teenager, and now, as an adult, I am increasingly committed to following my path , which is the art of making music.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, how did you start your musical project and how do you connect with your audience nowadays?
Today, it’s very easy to know what you have to do to reach people with your music, the social media, the streaming channels and so on. Interestingly, I formed my first band in the late 90s’ (Katarsis From Valpo), and of course, things were very different back then. We used to produce and distribute our own material (Cds, Cassettes), and when we organized and event , we would go through the neighborhood streets putting up Gig posters days before the show to attract the audience.
I feel that still nowadays, it’s much more enjoyable to do things that way. I really like creating things with your own hands.
Spending hours uploading music to platforms and posting videos or photos of my band are activities that I don’t really enjoy , although I know it’s a very important part of being and independent artist. I would say that the learning of these “Technological tricks” to reach people through the social media is crucial to succeed in music these days. However, I think music will always be about playing live, being in touch with your audience, and being eager to be on the road or on a plane heading to a new venue or making arrangements for your new song or record.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main goal as an artist and musician is to inspire others to create their own projects. When I say “others” , I genuinely believe that everyone should develop and artistic side and have their own creative project in the area of art that impassions them the most. This would make the world a much healthier and more enjoyable place to live.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am in the process of building my audience. I have recently started from scratch with a new musical project called “Pie Loco”. I believe my advice is to keep leaning more and more about the digital tools that the music or any other industry provides , but also not to lose the essence of doing things the way your learned when you started. Do the things the way yo love doing them, from my perspective it is essential having direct contact with people and trying to do most of the things related to your project by yourself.
