Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jimmy Of The Saints. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jimmy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was about the age of 10, I remember wanting to tell stories in a different way other than just writing them down on paper for no one to read but myself. Music was something I’ve always loved as a kid, I just didn’t know how to transfer the songs in my head to something that could be recorded or performed with other instruments at the time. I was influenced by artists like Drake, J. Cole, Kanye & Jay-Z at the time to put these stories into raps, and create music to work with the lyrics to create a song. I did my research, got a USB mic and started recording with Audacity, then GarageBand. I fell in love with making music. It was something that I felt so connected to and a way of expressing myself in the best way I felt possible, because sometimes, speaking wasn’t always the best.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an artist and producer in the music genre of (but not limited to) Rap & R&B. I also engineer most of my own tracks as well as some others. When I create music, I want my audience, to go through a journey that I’ve created and explore the trip that I create through sounds. I’m proud to say I’ve worked hard, educated myself and earned the knowledge that I have today and use those tools and skills to create, not just music but graphics, clothing, and any project that I’d like to.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Invest in what you like and who you like in the creative arts. I know invest seems like a large thing to do, but investing can be a small act as well, whether its investing one to three minutes of your time streaming a song or giving a like on a post of one your favorite independent artists. Plus, those two things I just mentioned are FREE.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
The time and dedication to the whole vision that it takes. I spend a lot of time working on projects and the type of work that it is, is different day to day. Most days it will be involving creating beats, recording and mixing tracks. Other days it will be taking an hour long trip just to get a certain view for an image or video or maybe even going out to different t-shirt shops to get merchandise created.
Whatever it may be it’s always towards the vision, always towards the goals, so the dream comes true.
