We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jimmy Green. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jimmy below.
Jimmy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I began drawing and painting at a very early age. I never intended for it to be a career path. To say that I make art for art’s sake sounds a bit cliched but it allows me to search new ways to depict ideas and approaches to art. Consequently I make art primarily as a personal journal that uses imagery to reflect my take on the social significance of my experiences, observations, and perceptions..
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I became a visual artist at an early age. Having grown up in an industrial environment, nothing could have been more diametrically opposed to culture, in its many forms. Making art became my steadfast preoccupation to depict my surroundings in my own visual language rather than to make cliched, shopworn, and literal references to it. My style is unique in I am not following the footsteps of any particular group think. Because I’m able to create art to entertain myself, I have little need for clients/followers/or fans. My only interest is exploring the plethora of ways I can use to put information on a flat surface, whether its sketching, traditional painting, digital painting, printing, throwing paint, etc.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Unlike most endeavors in life, making art requires no rules or expectations to follow. My only critic is myself.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Absolutely. Computers and image editing programs.
