We recently connected with Jimmy Gialelis and have shared our conversation below.
Jimmy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We are an education facility for licensed massage therapists to obtain their continuing education hour credits. Some classes are open to general public. We present massage therapy as an art. The body is like a canvas and our massage and bodywork techniques are like the strokes upon the canvas. We create beautiful art upon bodies. Our mission is to elevate the credibility of massage and bodywork in the eyes of the general public. We are encouraged to see massage and bodywork thrust deeper into allopathic care.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As of February 2022, I have been a licensed massage therapist for 22 years and going strong. Am proud to have been an exam item writer for our national licensure exam (Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam, MLBEx), have written over 30 articles for massage trade publications and in 2018 was inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame. I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the healing journey for so many therapists and clients alike.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
2020 was a year of resiliency. We almost went out of business during the pandemic as the state board of massage shut down operations in our state for several months. Even upon reopening, many people still did not feel comfortable leaving their homes. This created a condition in which I had to get creative with how I presented classes and work extra hard to service the few clients returning initially. I was not going to let a virus beat us. We survived 2020, then witnessed our best year in business in 2021. This demonstrated to me that staying true to yourself and staying the course you knew works will yield success through the hard times.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Bottom line—integrity and service Integrity in the massage field largely entails giving a genuine effort to ensure I serve my clientele to the best of my abilities. Following ethical standards and truly listening to my client’s needs matter most.
I believe my reputation has been built upon my integrity. My students and clients know I give a genuine honest effort. No shortcuts or slacking. Every effort is top notch and they will get my best every day.
