We recently connected with Jimmie Lee Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Jimmie Lee , appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The time came when I knew I wanted to pursue painting professionally when I just moved into my new apartment. I had all this wall space and freedom to hang whatever I wanted. The place I was coming from didn’t have much so I told myself this was the opportunity to dig deep into my inner child and be completely transparent and honest. The little jimmie in me loved art galleries, sculptures, drawings & a killer Esthetic. So I did just that!, now at this time like most people I went to your local places trying to fill this faint void with some kind of excitement. I thought about it all from wallpaper to a new color of paint, but everything I wanted just didn’t speak to me. Having a long history in fashion and designing it hit me that if there’s anything in this world that is for certain is that We have the power of alchemy. A few days later I went out, bought 2 large Canvases and paint and went to town. After a while I found this joy in creating again and how time & space didn’t exist when I was in the element. Seeing others like myself create and give it to the universe, Kinda like bearing your soul. I knew I could bring my own light to this world and plan to for the years to come.
Jimmie Lee , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Let’s begin with inspiration! From this I feel you get a truer feeling and aura of who JimmieLee is! Water the one element on earth that without it,nothing. giving everything life and even something’s death. It’s fluid nature allows it to become anything it need to be.
Women! The beauty and power one holds is unimaginable.
Life! The good & bad. No matter how we fight to control it, t always tells us differently.
All of theses things helps Sharp my ideas, thoughts, decisions, dreams & work. Working in the creative field for over 10 years and close with the public on a day to day manner I notice the shifts. My art work is the same. I paint off of emotion and freedom. Giving view points from understanding and thought.
Few people will say that being consistent will get people to know you. But that is what sets me apart from the traditions is in fact In my works are consistently inconsistent! Every series is ment to evoke a different feel and different reason.
Most of my works are in acrylic(s) paint. I have worked in pencil, watercolor & oil.
Most of my painting are 1 of 1, and all are available for purchase. I do commissions and private specialty works for clients or for businesses
Prints & stickers are also available for order by request.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The reward in being a creative is there’s no ceiling to hit. The fluidity in being able to think, act, & be whomever you may choose is the trophy at the end of the race. The world is relying on you for what’s next, they are watching and waiting. This comes with some responsibility to understand your voice as the blueprint holds weight. Rather you’re a designer, artist, builder or chef giving/sharing what you created is impacful to everyone from all walks of life even when you don’t notice.
This also gives light to individuality and being ok with not “fitting in” you as an individual can offer so much we somtime miss this understanding. I sometimes say the only one who can blow out your candle is yourself. Don’t put yourself in the dark because you’re afraid of your own light.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My career has taught me staying true to yourself while understanding your focus is the best path to go. Some call it tunnel vision. My mother passed unexpectedly at a young age leaving me to find Answers some people would simply ask but with me and my father who was around but not as present left me wondering who do I turn to in need. Through her teachings I know now you only have yourself to count on and responsible for your own destiny. Staying resilient and having Discernment will open doors. Be patient with the progress and with yourself.
