We recently connected with Jim Kerr and have shared our conversation below.
Jim, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
We “co-create customized solutions” with our clients — emphasis on co-create and custom. After all, our clients are the experts in what they do. So, why would we pretend, like some consulting firms do, to know more about their business than they do?
We respect our clients too much to be one of “those firms.”
Instead, we pledge to bring our vast experience in setting direction and managing change to the table and provide the tools that our clients need to achieve their strategic goals.
This means we provide the analytical frameworks, methodologies and assessment techniques that enables our clients (and us) to identify fresh opportunities that they might not otherwise see without our objective support.
We believe that this is exactly what a client should expect from a boutique consulting firm.

Jim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a top ranked leadership coach, culture change expert, vision story developer and business transformation specialist. A 7x business author, my leadership podcast The Indispensable Conversation is highly regarded within leadership circles. I also have columns in Inc, Psychology Today and CEO World. I am also a popular speaker at corporate events and conferences, speaking on leadership, culture and vision storytelling.
Industry independent, my clients come from financial services, manufacturing, retail, software, as well as federal, state and local government and include such diverse organizations as The Home Depot, General Dynamics, Bic, The Hartford, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and the United States Marine Corps, to name a few.
It is my strong dedication to demystifying complex concepts that enables me to continue to develop and deliver cutting-edge solutions to mys clients, while cultivating the fresh insights his coaching clientele require to become indispensable leaders.
The ability to simplify big ideas sets me apart from my larger competitors. It enables me to co-create solutions to client problems related to culture, organizational design, execution and talent development and retention.
I’m proud of my decades long track record and look forward to working with senior leadership teams as they set a course for the future.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Like everyone else on the planet, the pandemic threw me a curve ball. Travel restrictions meant I could no longer get to my clients. What to do? Double-down on my coaching practice!
I have been coaching for decades as a complement to my management consulting practice. It was not my “lead,” per se. Most clients reach-out to me for assistance in addressing strategic challenges. However, because my consulting is didactic by design, many clients have asked me to coach their next-level leaders along the way, too.
Indeed, it just made sense for me to pivot my emphasis from consulting to coaching at the dawn of the COVID outbreak — It could be effectively delivered remotely with assistance from tools like Zoom, and the like. I’m glad, i did.
Just this year, industry watch group Thinkers360, recognized me as their platform’s top-ranked leadership coach worldwide. That’s quite an honor, given that they track the work of nearly 6,000 thought leaders around the globe.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My thought leadership (i.e., books, articles, podcasts, videos, speaking etc.) continues to be my most effective strategy for growing my business.
Clients reach out to me directly because I am regularly contributing ideas intended to better their leadership thinking and approaches.
By “giving away” my best ideas, clients develop an appreciation for what I might be able to do for them — after all, no leadership team can ever have too many solid thinkers on the team!
