We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jill Elam a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jill, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Most everyone likes pretty things. When you hear the word pretty it grabs your attention. Most women want to look and feel pretty (women were my target audience) and most women want smaller snatched waist lines. So I wanted my company’s name to be catchy, feminine and cute. Based on the nature of my business I came up with Pretty Face Snatched Waist.

Jill, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The name of my business is Pretty Face Snatched Waist. I started the company in 2018, selling weight loss products. At that time, I didn’t really know what I was doing, not to mention I was selling a product I didn’t necessarily believe in; needless to say, the business did not flourish. In 2020 I re-branded my business to include body sculpting and training. My primary business goal is to train and certify women in body sculpting and assist them as they become entrepreneurs. What sets me apart from others would be my skill set, experience and wisdom. Currently, the field of body sculpting is not regulated by the State Board of California, however I am a licensed cosmetologist, whereas most trainers are not. I also have a doctorate degree in organizational leadership and social work which helps them as they are becoming business owners through my mentorship. I’m most proud that I have been able to train women and help them create financial freedom. I would like your readers to know that I have a passion for helping women become successful business owners through my body sculpting training and mentorship course. Over the last year in business, I’ve transitioned my training course to a virtual platform, in effort to reach more women worldwide.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The way I built my social media presence was by showing up every day. When it got to a point where I couldn’t physically create the content myself, I hired a social media manager. For those just starting I would say to be consistent show up every day even on the days you don’t feel like it post something even if you have to re-purpose and reuse the same Contant show up every day. Also, there are apps that you can use where you can batch content, and the content will be posted on the days and times you select. Social media is a free advertising platform that we as entrepreneurs should take full advantage of and again it’s as simple as just showing up every day posting about your business, posting something relatable to your business and your brand. Consistency is key.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
To be honest, I self funded my business. I used the money from my 9-to-5 to fund my business. I started small I only purchased things that I absolutely needed I didn’t hire an assistant or a social media manager until I was financially able to do so. Every dollar I made I put it back into the business. I didn’t pay myself for probably the first year or so. Being wise and not getting caught up in what other people are saying or doing has helped me stay financially stable.
