We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jill Chapman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jill below.
Alright, Jill thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
In the live event calligraphy industry, I am seeing a huge uptick in requests for pyrography. Clients want something unique and beautiful that their guests will remember. Beautiful calligraphy paired with pyrography, such as leather debossing, gold foiling, or woodburning are quick and elegant ways to personalize items on site. Guests love watching the magic happen and are excited to receive their item. This creates a positive experience with the brand or company that will be remembered every time they use the item.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Professionalism is my cornerstone from the first point of contact through meticulous planning, and flawless execution. I collaborate with the client to understand their needs and craft a plan to ensure my services seamlessly integrate into their event, creating an efficient and enjoyable experience for all. No event is too small or too large. With a network of highly skilled artists, I have experience in providing quality personalization experiences for high-volume events. As a retired school administrator, I am adept at dealing with the public and running a well organized event.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I find that building relationships with others in the event industry is the best way to connect with potential clients. I have built relationships with other local calligraphers and other industry professionals. It is a great way to keep up with upcoming events and trends and keep your work in the forefront of their minds when planning their next big event.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Luckily, in the calligraphy world, your art supplies and training are the main expense. Once I started making money from my jobs, I saved it all and invested it in additional supplies and training. As I built this up, I incorporated a new website, marketing, and other promotional materials to help draw attention to my business.
