We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jill Capri. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jill below.
Jill, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
This journey in the arts is all about the risks… Trial & Error. Never Giving In…
Jill, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into this because I wanted to make a difference (positively) and it was one of the best ways I could express myself freely that I was comfortable with. How I personally do it is hard work. Finding motivation at times while struggling with mental illnesses (like Depression and Anxiety) is rough but coming out the other side of that is all that has mattered in the long run. For all the people that come across me, I do custom art when I get a request. As long as I have the time. It hurts my soul when I have to turn something like that down. Sometimes it’s for the better that I’m not entirely comfortable doing or it’s the fact of what I’m going through mentally. Or even just time to be 100% honest. The way I’m contacted by people (I respond to all of my DMs and relevant emails) is mainly through my Instagram DMs and emails through my business email.
I am so so proud of where I came from. It wasn’t easy but I did it! The improvements you can see in my drawings, paintings, etc is unbelievable. Same goes for my voice and violin!
The thing(s) that set me apart from others is my age and what I preach. I’m (as of 2023) a very young, early into my teenage years public figure who already does so much in the arts. Then, through music I write about what a lot of people think is “taboo” but in reality mental health should be normalized. Nobody is perfect, we’re human. Singing about that is a way to express what I myself has gone through. Hoping others can relate is one of the most important things that I can get feedback from. Seeing people relate to me on YouTube as well is just heartwarming for me. After all, I am human and I’m glad I can be there for people weather I know/they know them/me in real life or not. Helping people through talking to a camera or letting my songs be heard is one of the most valuable things I can get.
My main message is I want nobody to feel alone in life. I’ve been there…I promise you’ll make it to the other side of the dark place you’re in. I hope I impacted you to where I can help you make it through the darkness. One day, I hope to meet all of you in person and get hugs from all of you. This “empire” is pure magic and I want you to know, whatever you believe, you can achieve.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
What I believe society can do is not judge a book by it’s cover. It’s okay if you don’t like my music as we all have our personal tastes in that, BUT they can not spread negativity all over the place. Just for my 2 minute, 8 second song we spent 3 hours on vocals, 2-2 & 1/2 hours in the mixing/mastering process, and 5 hours on the music video. That’s over 10 hours on it’s own. People who like it can like & Subscribe on YouTube, maybe leave a comment or two. Buy merch when creators have it available. Stream the music on Spotify or Apple Music (or whatever music platform you use). Even purchasing the stuff on Amazon. Like and share stuff on Facebook, even re-sharing posts on Instagram. You know what I mean haha- Create what you want, enjoy life to the fullest. Weather we like it or not we will all run out of time one day. If you want to start a journey in the arts, go for it! I don’t know who you are, but I think that you can do it just like I did! For thriving you may have to invest in some things but that will come back around in the light.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The thing(s) that have hit me the most in terms of “rewarding” is the positivity. Even though everyone has negative people when you’re in the public’s eye, also known as “haters.” Hearing that people can relate to me and enjoy my work is the biggest reward I could EVER get. Even just following my art account(s) on Instagram and TikTok with people liking my work is everything. Same with what I do on my main accounts that have my face plastered all over the place. Just the support is the rewarding aspect. It’s scientifically proven that artists end up being the happiest in life because they’re doing what makes them happy. That is also rewarding, knowing that if you enjoy music/art you will more than likely be happier than you originally thought you would be. Art is important and being able to express what you’re feeling freely is everything to most, if not all of us.
