We recently connected with Jill Boland and have shared our conversation below.
Jill, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents are wonderful, caring individuals. They taught me to see people, to be compassionate and to know that I am so blessed to have the opportunities I have. They remind me often to give back to those that have less, to listen, to welcome and to love one another. They also taught me to work hard and to never give up. Growing up on a farm, there were always lots to do with chores, working in the garden, walking beans or picking rock. My parents always showed pride in what they did and I always felt that growing up. I continue to take pride in what I do and do it with love.

Jill, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am from a small farming community in Iowa. I first began working out when I was 14 years old. I started Olympic Weightlifting with a coach, Greg Kustra, to improve my basketball performance. I fell in love with working out, the way it made me feel and the improvements I saw on the basketball court. After high school, I enrolled to the University of Northern Iowa where I continued to Olympic lift, competed in a few competitions, judged and coached competitions; so you can say the love for lifting was definitely real and I knew there was a future in this. I worked with another amazing Olympic Weightlifting coach, Jianping Ma, a former Olympian, during this time. I also worked with the University of Northern Iowa’s Strength teams and with the volleyball team and a few of the other women’s teams. I loved coaching and decided to further my education with fitness and receive my bachelor’s in Kinesiology (and Spanish, because why not, knowing a second language never hurt anyone). I worked a year after graduating at a local gym as a personal trainer and coach. I then moved to Kansas City and started working at 24 Hour Fitness. I trained there for 3 years and started my business out of my home in 2012. I loved owning my own business and needed more space so in 2020 (what a great time to start) I opened Wellness Warehouse and 2 weeks later we had the shutdown. But we made it through offering personal training and in 2021 we started offering group fitness to make it more affordable for those that want the professional programming, knowledge and safety of proper form. Since then we have multiple services offered here and continue to add more. I love what I do and I love this community even more. They make all this craziness of running a small business totally worth it! We love to serve our people and will continue to do so as best we can for as long as we can.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
communication and reminding them how grateful you are of their work

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I am compassionate about what I offer. I know it changes lives. All you have is one body, take care of it and give it love.
