We were lucky to catch up with Jill Allison Bryan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jill Allison, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
In a fun, recent client success story I helped my client Laura completely transform her career from marketing consultant to muralist-business owner within the span of about 18 months.
Here’s an overview of her journey once she hired me as her creativity coach:
* Laura worked a full-time marketing job but had dozens of creative ideas calling to her.
* I helped her to play in possibility and then make an empowered decision as to which creative avenue she would pursue.
.
* She chose to focus on painting murals.
* She started “Twin City Murals” as a part-time side endeavor while she continued to full-time marketing work.
* She created a website, business cards, advertising, social media for her mural business and quickly began signing clients and landing mural commissions.
* Within six months she shifted to full-time mural artist with a part-time marketing job. (We did a lot of coaching around the mindset shifts necessary to create these results and this major career change.)
* She continued to sign more and more new mural clients and earn repeat business and referrals.
* Six months later, she quit her marketing job completely to pursue her mural business full time.
* With her confidence strengthened and she embraced her self-concept as an artist and rebranded her business as “Laura Margo Murals & Custom Art.”
* At this point she continues to grow her business, love her life and enjoy even more personal creative time such as learning to play the harp and writing.
Of course the massive creative growth and successes Laura experienced wasn’t without risks and challenges and that’s why the creative coaching work was so important.
With our coaching work I was able to help her to deal with and move past hurdles such as imposter syndrome, overwhelm, indecision and perfectionism at each new level of her journey.
“I’m so grateful I invested in myself and my creative dreams. Before working with Jill, I never imagined I could turn my creative passion into my full time career but it’s happening! I love the life I’ve created for myself!” ~ Laura Margo Johnson
Jill Allison, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a creativity coach I help people make the creative dreams whirling around in their minds happen in the real world.
More than 15 years of hands-on experience working as a creativity coach combined with the work I’ve done personally to create my own successful business and weave joy, purpose and satisfaction throughout my personal and professional creative life makes me ideally suited to help others do the same.
(In other words, I practice what I preach!)
Back in 2007 while searching for a life coach, I found a creativity coach, began working with her immediately and completely changed the trajectory of my life.
She helped me revive my passion for playing piano, singing and writing songs which led to my return to performing and then recording my solo CD, Dancing in Limbo.
I also earned my certification as a creativity coach and transformed my CD release into a fundraising event called Infinite Possibilities: A Night of Music, Art and Women Helping Women.
I invited 13 female artists to donate an original piece of artwork inspired by one of the 13 songs on my CD, created a website for the event, video interviews with each artist, enlisted sponsors and raised more than $10,000 for Women for Women International after expenses.
The reason I share this particular creative success story is I know without a doubt that without creative coaching, I’d never have known how to bring a dream of that magnitude to life.
As a creativity coach I help my clients get clear around their creative dreams and desires and then shift their mindset to move past blocks like procrastination, perfectionism, overwhelm, inner critic and fears so they can strengthen their self-confidence, create and maintain healthy boundaries.
As a result they’re then able to turn their creative vision into reality.
Over the years I’ve helped my clients to write (memoirs, blogs, screenplays, articles, songs, poetry), submit proposals, create and share courses and workshops, build coaching careers, help heal bodies, open boutique ad agencies, start and grow dream businesses, experience way more “for the fun of it” creativity, support causes they care about deeply, make art, sell art, grow their income and lists, truly enjoy their retirement and more!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After my divorce in 2017 I was at a crossroads.
I needed to find a way to provide for myself and my daughter and didn’t want to have to sell our home.
Due to a legal fiasco brought about by the divorce, I also had to file for bankruptcy.
Creative Oasis Coaching had been a wonderful part-time business up to that point, but I needed to take it to the next level.
To make that happen I overcame my shame, fear and doubt.
I believed that I could do it before I had the proof.
I bet on myself.
I asked for help when it felt uncomfortable and scary to do so.
In fact, I borrowed money from a family member because I had no credit, no paycheck and less than one month’s nest egg in the bank.
I used that money to invest in coaching and support that helped me completely transform my life and business.
I went on to build Creative Oasis Coaching into a thriving, mortgage paying career that I love.
I actually feel grateful to have been pushed out of the nest, because that’s how I learned I had what it takes to fly.
And now I get to be an example of what’s possible for my clients.
I get to help them say yes to their creative dreams and step into their power to turn those dreams into a reality they love ~ even when they don’t know exactly how that will be possible at first.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I’ll answer that by sharing my personal creative philosophy which is:
“When you give yourself permission to say yes to your creative callings, you’ll be a happier, healthier, more fulfilled human and the world will be a better, brighter place!”
I feel incredibly grateful that my creative passions and career align so beautifully and that I get to help people bring their creative dreams to life as their creativity coach!
