We recently connected with Jieqiong Huang and have shared our conversation below.
Jieqiong, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of the cookie is Butterie and it originates from the main ingredient butter. We came up with over 10 names before we finally decided on Butterie. We really want people feel the authenticity and texture of the cookies when it comes to name. That’s how we come up with a name Butterie.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My company sell Shortbread cookies. Our goal is to makes the most delicious shortbread cookies with the cleanest ingredients. I will say that one thing that really sets us apart really is how good these shortbreads are. We have changed our recipes so many times and bakes so many batches and finally come to what we have today. As many girls who love to bake, the process of developing the recipe is also a self-discover journey. I really was going through a breakup and making the cookies really helps me to bring the inner strength together and bring happiness to others. So I want to bring the joy and tell people that you are a tough cookie through Butterie.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I usually feel stagnated if we are lingering on one topic for too line. So every time it happens, I always feel being beaten up. I also think that is a feeling every small business owner with a 9-5 job would have. When we first started, it took us a while to make the decision on the name, then the packaging also took us a very long time, then food label. There are very little things but also needs to be thoroughly thought. Especially these are all the obstacles especially when you are entering into a new industry. One of the things I have learnt is always set the deadline and show up for yourself. I always more motivated by the deadline, and it is good for self-discipline. Second one is to show up for yourself. We don’t always feel motivated but consistently showing up is like a making a commitment to yourself. It will keep you going.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Trial really works for us. I usually would let people try the cookies first and that’s how many of them get hooked at the first place and are willing to come back for more. So we really trying to do more pop up stores and attend exhibit and event facing directly to the customers.
