We recently connected with Jida Kalai and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jida, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I started my career as an Interior designer and have done that for many years. I’m someone who has a passion for fashion, beauty, nature, animals, food, and above all health and fitness. Years ago I experienced some set backs that left me with a lot of pain both physically and mentally. I tried coping by running away from my issues and over indulging in exercise. As you might know, too much of anything is not a good thing and working out is no exception. Even though I looked good on the outside, I didn’t feel good on the inside. I’ve always had a very sensitive body with significant allergies. Getting sick scared me because I couldn’t tolerate most of the medications and so I resorted to doing my own research on holistic healing.
I attended fitness retreats many years ago and tried to look for natural ways to heal my injuries and ailments. I started an amateur fitness group in 2012 for my family and friends where I led some hikes, bikes, and outdoor activities. In 2020, the pandemic hit and I decided to make my version of lemonade. I made a career change and became a certified holistic nutritional coach and a certified personal trainer. As the saying goes: “you have to help yourself before helping others.” I got myself physically and mentally healthy and then started helping others achieve their goals by partnering with them on their way to a healthy lifestyle.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Dieting should not be about starving yourself, but rather leading a healthy lifestyle that fulfills your taste buds with nature’s amazing foods. I don’t believe in deprivation, but rather in a clean diet that is minimally processed and highly nutritional. Exercise should not feel like a chore, but rather a recreational part of your day that is fun and enjoyable. Remember that we start aging when we stop playing. Find the type of workout that challenges you, but also makes you happy and excited at the same time. When we age, we start losing flexibility, balance, coordination and strength. All of these areas are targeted in my workout programs. I want FABS Fitness to be a one stop for people’s health needs. Mind, body, and soul should be nurtured in all that we do.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I went to school for interior design and the was my job for years. I loved the creativity and the artistry of it. I reached a stage of my life where I needed a change. I wanted to focus more on my health and those around me. I shifted my focus to training and nutrition. In the beginning I questioned if this is the right move to make in my forties, but then I decided that I need to follow where my passion is and not worry about how late in life I’m embarking on a new path. It’s been a couple of years and I’m so happy I’m doing something that I love and enjoy. Working with my clients is like therapy to me.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Personal training is very personal. People feel how much I care about their well being. Trusting someone with your body, and with your meal prep takes a lot of believing in the coach you’re hiring. Its exactly like finding the right doctor for you. . My clients find this in me. I genuinely care about them and feel ecstatic watching their transformation. Now looking fit and healthy helps too ;). People want to see you as an example of what you preach.
