We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jian Wood . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jian below.
Jian , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My mom taught me how to be compassionate, kind, and understanding. These values have helped me at my job in customer service. I am a manager at party city and being able to be compassionate, kind, and understanding to others is so important.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started posting on tik tok in October of 2021. I have always loved watching tik tok and I wanted to post my own but was always too scared. My first tik tok was with my boyfriend. It was a silly, photo challenge. I forget when I started posting every day but I have been for awhile now. My content consists of sharing my story about adoption, limb difference awareness, mental health, and body positivity. I feel the most proud when I get comments/DMs about how my content makes people happy, feel seen, they look forward to what I post, etc. I am a limb different, Chinese American, adoptee and I believe that makes me stand out, a lot haha. But I have learned to love it.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media but posting consistently and interacting with the people who comment on my vids. I am also honest when I talk about my feelings about my adoption and limb different struggles and I think it resonates with people. Well, I know that it does because I have been told many times that I’m not alone in my feelings.
My advice to others wanting to build on social media would be to just post. Post and interact with the people who take the time to comment on your videos.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I hope to make social media my full time job. Being paid to help and entertain people by posting videos of me just being myself sounds perfect.
