JIAMIN, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about one of the craziest things you’ve experienced in your journey so far.
We were shooting a New Year’s commercial that day. To create a lively atmosphere, we hired over 100 extras, and the location was a narrow old street, surrounded by local residents. On top of that, this was right after the pandemic ended, so many of us were still recovering and feeling unwell.
The shoot didn’t go as smoothly as planned. That evening, we were filming a New Year’s scene with a lion dance and drumming, which was incredibly loud and chaotic. Just halfway through the shoot, the extras suddenly demanded more money and threatened to walk off set. At the same time, an elderly resident nearby was startled by the noise and had a heart attack. The situation instantly became a total mess, and to make things worse, the client was sitting right beside me, witnessing all of this unfold.
In order to ensure the shoot continued safely, I had to step in and handle everything immediately. As the producer, I first went to speak with the extras, working to resolve the issue while keeping the shoot on schedule. I made sure to calm the actors down and had my assistant call the extras’ agent to come to the set and maintain order. Meanwhile, I arranged for our liaison producer to accompany the elderly person’s family to the hospital for a check-up and prepared a compensation gift as a gesture of goodwill.
At that moment, we were all certain that this ad would turn out terribly, with things not going smoothly at all and the mood among the crew far from stable. But when the commercial was finally released, it received a great response from viewers. The respect for traditional craftsmanship and the sincere New Year blessings really resonated with the audience. We were deeply touched and realized that not everything has to go perfectly. The struggles along the way are what make the experience truly authentic.

JIAMIN, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I entered the field of freelance producing because of my passion for storytelling and creating impactful experiences through media. I graduated from the New Media Academy and have worked as a curator and photographer, which has given me a deeper understanding of creativity and art. I don’t just focus on commercial management; I place great emphasis on the creative and artistic value of each project. Through my skills, I aim to present better works, not merely commercial products.
Initially, I was drawn to the intersection of creativity, logistics, and problem-solving, which led me into production. Over time, I’ve gained experience across various industries, especially in entertainment and technology.
As a freelance producer, I provide a wide range of services, including coordinating large-scale commercial shoots, overseeing creative direction, managing logistics, and ensuring smooth collaboration between teams. My work primarily involves crafting high-quality visual content for brands, such as commercials, product launches, and experiential marketing campaigns.
One of the main problems I solve for clients is turning their creative vision into reality, while ensuring timely delivery and staying within budget. I excel at managing complex shoots and balancing multiple tasks to keep everything running smoothly. Clients appreciate my ability to foresee challenges and resolve them quickly, ensuring that, even in chaotic or fast-paced situations, the final product is polished and effective.
What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my deep understanding of how creativity, logistics, and human dynamics work together to create successful projects. I don’t just focus on the technical side; I also care about the emotional and narrative aspects. This means I take the time to understand the brand’s story and ensure it’s reflected in the final product.
I am most proud of my ability to stay calm and steady under pressure, especially in moments of uncertainty. I’ve had the privilege of working with amazing brands like Hypergryph, Elle, Genshin Impact, and OnePlus, and the positive feedback I’ve received from clients and audiences is a testament to the hard work and dedication I put into each project.
What I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know is that I’m not just a producer—I’m someone who truly cares about bringing their creative vision to life. I’m passionate about creating stories and experiences that leave a lasting impression, and I always go the extra mile to ensure every project I take on is a success. I believe every project should be a window through which a brand can express its ideas, rather than just a commercial product.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
This is a story from my trip to Tanzania. While in the Serengeti, we were immersed in the beauty of the animals on the plains in the afternoon. Suddenly, it started to rain lightly. At first, we didn’t think much of it and continued to enjoy the misty rain and the natural surroundings. But before long, our vehicle got stuck in the mud and couldn’t move forward. We urgently called for help from a nearby vehicle. After trying to push the car and clear the mud around the wheels without success, I suggested using the rear vehicle to push the front one, applying force to help us get unstuck. We were all very tense, but luckily, after a strong impact, we managed to free the vehicle.
However, as we continued on our way back to the hotel, another crisis struck. After driving for a while, the car’s headlights broke completely, likely due to the earlier impact, leaving us without any light source. We stopped on the road, surrounded by tall grass, where animals could be lurking at any moment. Without headlights, we couldn’t continue driving. At first, only the guide got out to assess the situation. My companion was injured, and seeing no progress, I boldly opened the door and got out to help the guide search for an emergency flashlight. Unfortunately, the vehicle wasn’t equipped with one. Around us, animals were constantly passing by, and we could even see buffalo moving nearby. We weren’t sure whether they would attack us, but staying there overnight would be far more dangerous. The nearest vehicles would take at least an hour to arrive.
With no other choice, I tied my phone to my jacket and used it as a makeshift high beam. With the faint light, the guide and I carefully began to drive forward. We moved slowly, focused and determined, each small movement feeling like a race against time. Finally, we reached a safe zone. When we stopped the car, I let out a deep sigh of relief. Looking back at the hardships we had faced, I felt deeply moved. Despite the numerous challenges, at that moment, I knew that I hadn’t just led the group through the ordeal—I had also created an invisible bond between all of us in the face of life and death. As the guide and my companion’s emotions slowly stabilized, I realized that this journey had taught me that true courage is not just about charging forward in the face of danger, but about staying calm in a crisis and offering support to others.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
For me, the best source of new clients comes from word-of-mouth recommendations, long-term client relationships, or referrals from friends. This allows me to get an early understanding of the client’s character, which helps minimize risks. It also enables both parties to build rapport and become familiar with the collaboration process ahead of time. When clients are introduced through trusted sources, we can establish mutual trust from the start, which makes the working relationship smoother and more effective.
In addition, as a freelance producer, I actively participate in industry events, creative exhibitions, and networking opportunities to expand my connections. These events provide me with direct opportunities to connect with potential clients, especially those looking for a balance of creativity and quality.
Most importantly, by consistently delivering high-quality work and maintaining a deep understanding of creativity, I’ve been able to build a strong reputation. I believe that when each project is executed to perfection, clients will naturally seek me out, and word-of-mouth will bring even more opportunities.
