We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jhonathan Rodriguez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jhonathan below.
Alright, Jhonathan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned most of my skills in photography from high school when I chose it as my major but even before then I was toying with what photography was. Knowing what I know now, I would’ve pushed myself more to take pictures of others or events to have built more and stronger relationships with others so I could’ve pushed my boundaries further than what they were back then. The most essential skills to photography itself is knowing beforehand what your objective to the shoot is and already having the idea of how you’ll edit the photo before/during taking the photos. The main obstacle that ever stood in the way of learning more was myself! I’ve let myself down countless times by not truly believing in the skills I have because though I love where I am at now, I know I could’ve done so much more if I had faced myself and built solid confidence in what I could do for others.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who will read this and do not know who I truly am as a human being and business man, I go into my work with almost near perfect expectations knowing full well I can’t achieve perfection. I love working with others during my shoots because I want to give them the most natural yet beautiful photos they’ve seen. I got into the photography business because I love to simply create for myself and others who come to me for a shoot. My brand goes by the name of BASIK, I provide photoshoots in most spectrums, videos, and apparel. My authenticity towards the ones I interact with and my work is what I feel sets me apart from and brings me towards many in my field. I am so proud of the work I’ve done and have been working on to continue further in this realm. I want my present clients and future clients that whether I do a photoshoot, video, or if they buy from my apparel; that they will feel apart of the BASIK brand as the slogan goes “Basik, But Different”. I want all I meet to understand its okay to feel like a simple being yet be so unique to the core that you want to radiate more of yourself to show those around you there is more to to just being.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal/mission that drives my creativity is wanting to continue growth within myself skillfully and humanly. While I provide a service for others, I hope to form bonds along the way to form a community of love and support. My work is more than just work, it is a passion and something I enjoy sharing with those who follow what I do.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding from being a creative in my city of Fort Worth is most definitely the connections. I can’t tell you how much my growth has come from countless others I’ve worked with or met through my journey. Im so thankful for all the advice given, the different perspectives shared from others, the guidance they’ve shown me to better myself in skillset and being a better human being in my environment.
