We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jhetta Ebron a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhetta, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
My first client was actually my step brother and I will always appreciate the door he opened up for me. Are use my camera only as a hobby. I will record myself rapping in the car or just taking pictures, and I thought nothing of it. He saw something in me that I didn’t see at the time and asked me if I could film his wedding. I knew nothing about filming weddings or filming at all but as soon as he has, it made me want to learn more about the craft. He asked me how much it would cost and with the price that I gave him I thought that I was asking for too much. He actually told me that I was asking for too little and double my offer. That’s when I realize that I could actually benefit off of being a creative in a different way. It was up from there.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Chello! My name is Jhetta Ebron and I am the proud owner of joeprovisuals. I Always live my life in front of the camera, but I had no idea how much fun I could have behind it as well. I’ve always love movies in beautifully capture images, but I never thought that I could produce any of my own, until I actually put forth the effort to do so. Watching my imagination come to life and being able to provide for myself has been a blessing in disguise, and I am so thankful for every client that I have that chooses to have me a part of their journey .
We all have a voice, and sometimes people use theirs through different methods. Sometimes it’s through word, song, dance, work, or other creative expressions. I found out that I had a voice through my camera.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I have a love for thrillers in murder mysteries. One of my biggest goals would be to be one of the first black women to receive a Grammy or a top nomination for directing a suspense/horror film. Jordan Peele has been making me feel is, though that can come true.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I would say that my career is on a pivot as we speak. As I approach my 3rd year in videography, I am realizing that even though I love working with my clients, there is so many avenues that I want to take for myself. I have been using my camera to film everyone else’s vision and I have forgot about my own in the process. I’m now at a point where I still want to be there for my clients but I also have to be there in the rebranding of Joe Pro Visuals. I am remembering why I love film in the first place.
