We recently connected with Jhane and have shared our conversation below.
Jhane, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I have a full time job as well as my poetry writing. I am super happy as an artist/creative. I know myself well enough to know that I need to be doing something creative in order to thrive. So, I like being able to do both. I get the best of both worlds and I get to strengthen so many skills because I am doing my creative and day jobs.
Jhane, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always been a writer. I started off writing lyrics. In high school, I remember winning second place in a poetry contest. Writing has always been a love of mine. I made a page for it during the pandemic when I got really depressed and it helped a lot to be able to express myself in that way. I’ve since met so many people from all across the world and been able to connect and come across some truly unique and wonderful opportunities. I have had people commission poems. I enjoy creating special pieces. I’ve also published my book, “Compositions: Sinking, Floating, Sailing” under my first name (Jhazzmyn), and I’ve been published in several spaces. Aside from writing, some other interesting things about me are that I also sing and dabble with playing the guitar, I was born in Nevada, and I really love traveling and spending time with loved ones.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspects of creating are meeting new people and reaching people. I know the question only asks for one, but I had to include these two. I get to meet people from all over the world and all walks of life. That means I get to expand my worldview and collaborate with people while learning about them. That’s something I’ll never get tired of. Additionally, it’s always a pleasure knowing that my words have touched and resonated with someone.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Poets/writers in general often submit poetry for publication in various anthologies, literary journals, etc. I am no exception. It can be such a disheartening process because there are lots of rejections, I’ve had my fair share. I hear “no” more than “yes” when submitting for publication. However, I don’t stop because I know that art is subjective and that someone may pick up my work and enjoy it. It’s worth it to get that one “yes”. So, I am no ever saddened when someone doesn’t connect with what I write. I know someone will. That’s what keeps me going and submitting.
