Jexsi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
About a year ago, I was working on a transaction where my client was the daughter-in -law to the woman, who was going to be funding the entire deal from down payment to closing costs. They had a rocky relationship because of issues that had been going on long before I entered the picture. Because of that, I had to be an intermediary between them and their communication because the mother-in-law didn’t trust my client, the daughter-in-law, enough to disclose any financial information to her whatsoever. So while I helped my client search for homes, I would also report back to the mother-in-law to let her know how the process was going. We found a home and I was able to get her offer accepted, There came a crossroads in the deal where I had to make an ethical decision though. My client’s husband, who was going to be helping pay the mortgage, had lost his job during the process of the escrow due to a DUI incident. They were not going to tell the mother-in-law this material fact, because she would no longer support the home purchase. My client asked me not to say anything about it because she was confident she would be able to pay the mortgage on her own. It didn’t take a lot of reflecting to decide that the right thing to do was to let the mother in law know that income had changed for these prospective homeowners. She understood that meant she may potentially be paying the mortgage as well as all the fees in escrow. Needless to say, the deal fell through, but my conscience remained intact. Coming from a nonprofit background, I intend to run my business. with a people first mindset and not a sales at any cost mindset.

My journey began in Jamaica, where I was born into a country struggling with the aftermath of colonization. Raised without a father and with a mother who served in the US Army, I faced significant challenges early on. After my service in the Air Force, I encountered the harsh realities of homelessness in San Francisco, which profoundly shaped my understanding of systemic issues related to housing and poverty.
How I Got Into My Industry
My experience of homelessness and my determination to create a better future for my son led me to pursue a career in real estate. This decision was driven by a desire to build generational wealth and address the homelessness crisis through direct involvement in the housing market. I moved to San Diego with a vision to make a difference, using my background and experiences to advocate for affordable housing and sustainable development.
Services and Creative Works
In my real estate practice, I focus on creating opportunities for my clients where there may not seem to be an initially. Creative financing, savvy negotiating on there behalf, no obstacle is daunting to me.
