We recently connected with Jevante King-Woods and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jevante thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
So there are two separate moments that helped me realize I wanted to pursue being an artist professionally. First was summer of 2016 when I sold my first painting. It felt like I hit the lottery and that sparked the idea that I should try to pursue this. Then after a few years of shows and a few paintings being sold here and there I sold my first painting over $1,000 which was my first painting sold outside of Ohio. That moment showed me I’m on the right path.
Jevante, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got by JaeCapo. I am a father, a husband and a self-taught expressionist artist based in Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve been involved in the arts since age 8. I grew up drawing my favorite cartoons and eventually worked at drawing people. I got my first taste of painting in high school. I eventually stopped painting after high school just drew pictures for the next 9 years. After talking with my brother, a fellow artist, I decided to paint again and a month later I sold my first painting.
I would say I was an industry professional until I began to understand how the industry works. I started to study how the business side of things work with galleries, auctions, licensing artwork etc. With that knowledge and my personal growth and understanding of self I began to create some of my best work, my largest pieces, and I began to connect with buyers in a different way. I now paint on anything paint will stick to. Painting on canvas is my primary form of art but I paint on clothes, design logos, graphic designs, book covers and more.
My proudest moment for me and seeing how my family looks at my artwork. Knowing my wife, children, mother and siblings are proud and love my work brings me ultimate joy.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I love NFTs and what they can do for the art world and artist. I have not full bought in as of now simply because I love the journey of creating something physical and connecting with people who get to see the art in person and most importantly connecting with the buyers and collectors.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have short term and long term goals that keep me going. Being able to provide for my family is an obvious goal that on going. My most important goal that driver my journey and the desire to evolve as an artist: I want to create something that is better and more purposeful than previous collections.
