Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jetty Nieuwenhuis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jetty, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Actually in my late forties. I am definitely a late bloomer. But, a but here, as a Law School dropout in Amsterdam at 20, I got into some office jobs. At 27 I decided I wanted to become a Makeup Artist and went to school in Amsterdam. I loved it. At 29 I moved with my Dutch husband to Canada and bought a farm. We got 2 boys, and I was a stay-at-home mom up until 2018. That’s when I went back to school (46 years) to become a Health Coach, Personal Trainer, and Nutrition Coach. I started my Instagram business Trujetty and coaching clients. In 2020 I realized that I wanted to be a full-time Creator/Influencer and Model, and stopped 1:1 coaching. In the meantime in 2013 I had done an Image Styling course in NY, but never got anywhere with it. Now I am writing about my life, and my past, making videos about beauty and fashion. Magically everything I have ever done has come together as Trujetty.

Jetty, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am 51 and am a recovered people pleaser, recovered Bulimic and healed from Lyme disease. I love for others to have a beautiful life experience too, instead of like a victim in life. I hope to be inspiring to people to see what’s possible in life because my start in childhood wasn’t that great. I am working directly with brands and get paid by them. Brands that share Trujetty’s values; Individuality, Respect, Honesty, and Optimism. I also created a free course about aging positively and backward. All my tips are in there from nutrition to beauty treatments to mental health. I believe a big part of my vibrance has to do with being happy, and all the inner healing I have done. On top of that, I am creating a “How to Become Influencer/Community Builder course, and designing a VIP day with me in the beautiful Canadian Rockies, Canmore. The VIP day will be a day centered around feeling empowered. Think beauty treatment, champagne, life coaching, skiing, dinner in restaurant, and more. I am creating content on Instagram, Tiktok, and Youtube, and the spicier content is going to my email subscription list (which you get on when you receive the free positive aging course. What sets me apart is that I am not trying to be the perfect curated Influencer, but I share my real-life struggles, for example, my experience with breast implant illness. My experience with not having the best body image myself and more.
I see myself as a change-maker. There is so much negativity in this world, my content helps you to feel better about yourself and makes you realize that I see you, you deserve all the good, success, and happiness.
I am most proud of moving to Canada, not knowing anyone, and raising 2 beautiful boys, I am still happily married, but through all the struggles I had in my life, to conquer them and rise above them. Rise above all the people that have wanted to stop me in my life. I am here at 51, running a successful brand, all founded by myself. It is only just beginning.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think a lot of people think I do nothing. Whereas I actually wake up at 6.30 am sometimes earlier, 7.30 is sleeping in. Start early to get everything done in my life. I am doing all the groceries, bookkeeping, laundry, and organizing for my farm family. On top of that, I am on my phone a lot. Scrolling people would think. No working. Almost every thought I have or moment I am thinking creatively. For example on vacation, oftentimes there is a partnership involved, so I have to be smart about when I make a video of the hotel room, etc. I would say that I am always on. Building a community on social media means a lot of engaging, liking, commenting, answering DM’s, emails, and planning. And it always looks fun, whereas so I had to work really hard to build thick skin because, without thick skin, you are not coming far. And consistency is key. Even when I had my breast explants removed in 2021, I didn’t really take a break. Now I love what I do, I am very passionate, but it’s also easy to get burned out. And the bigger you get, the more criticism, unfortunately.
So yeah, I do something fun, but at the same time I create and my brain is on.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
All my hard work over the last 6 years is starting to pay off. Now let me make one thing clear, there is no such thing as an overnight success for no one. There always is a lot of work that had happened behind the scenes and before the success. This hard work has been creating, building community, networking, growing thick skin and healing myself, educating myself being true to my authentic self, and so much more. It is so rewarding when I sign a contract with a brand, and in my head, I have no idea what to create. And then the ideas start to come, my husband btw is a great influence on ideas too, and oftentimes my photographer/videographer. And then when the end result is there, I am obsessed with it. Then I feel super rewarded.
I actually love the editing process and writing as well.
