Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jetson Slayter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jetson, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I’ve taken was becoming a content creator. In the beginning stages of my career I had a lot of people tell me that I needed to be realistic and pursue a “regular job”. In my mind being a content creator was a regular job. I’ve been making content ever since I was a kid. Making little videos as a young 6th grader with my little sister, Anyssa, and editing them as well. Being behind the camera and In front of it has always felt so normal and natural to me so it just made sense for me to pursue this as a career despite what anyone thought.
Jetson, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I originally started posting on TikTok during Covid and created a good following by posting consistently and not being afraid to show my actual personality. I recently started to post on Instagram as well and my account has just started to take off. I mainly post content about Hawaii. I was born here but not raised on the island so I have started a series about “rediscovering Hawaii”, where I show all the hidden gems as well as local favorites and hot spots to check out. I’m known as “The Real IslandBoy” and I love sharing my life with my followers. What sets me apart from others, in my opinion, would be that I am authentically myself on/off camera and I love to engage with my followers and I think of them as my Besties.
I am the most proud of my dedication to being a content creator. I’m not one to give up and I always push myself to be better everyday and I believe my content proves that. Making content is a lot more difficult than it seems and people don’t realize how much goes into it and I pride myself on always making sure I am creating quality over quantity.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
A huge goal of mine is to give back to my community that I’ve built. I want to do a lot of giveaways in the future where I send my followers on trips to Hawaii so they can create their own adventures for themselves like I have done since living out here.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Something that really stands out to me as being the most rewarding part of doing what I do would be the ability to make people laugh or make someone smile. I aim to spread positive energy throughout my content and if I made at least one persons day and helped inspire them in some way then I did my job.
