We were lucky to catch up with Jet Tamburri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jet , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s something crazy on unexpected that’s happened to you or your business
Starting my career in the 90’s was an interesting journey.. Back then shops were still heavily run by motorcycle clubs. The first few years I witnessed many fights, drug abuse, people dying, getting arrested, etc.

Jet , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up in the city of Philadelphia. I was heavily involved with graffiti in the city. I had some friends who got arrested and fined. I said to myself is this worth it to go to jail for. I looked around at the the corner stores that had tons of graffiti on their walls and would always try and paint over it. I said to myself I wonder if they will let me paint a mural on there wall so they won’t have to keep repainting. I was surprised how many places aloud me to do murals on on there business. While I was painted one of the walls two fellas approached me and asked if I would paint the tattoo shop. From there they asked me if I wanted to learn how to tattoo.. That’s how I got into the tattoo industry. From there I met new people and traveled around the states working tattoo conventions. Ive been tattooing since 1997. Style have changed over the years so ive been around it all for many years. I’m well versed in all styles of tattooing. I believe you shouldn’t just do one style. You should be open to try new things and be able to offer clients a wide range of tattoo styles.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Yes I’ve sold my side of the business to move across the country. In 2008 when the housing market crashed business was slow and I decided to try and switch things up. I wanted to go to school in Arizona and try something different. I still worked as a tattoo artist while in school. I even opened a shop when I lived in Arizona. To this day I’m still working in the same industry.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
After one year of being open at a shop I opened in Delaware. We decided to so thanks by doing a free tattoo day for first come first serve. The thought was to thank exsisting clients and bring new ones to the shop. It was a good day for most of it. When the word free is involved you’ll get all sorts of people show up.
