We were lucky to catch up with Jet Hatu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jet , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I spent 7 years in the corporate world. During that time was highly successful in building a team and leading the organization to millions of dollars in year over year growth. I loved training my team, I loved the sales process, I loved the business, until I started my own business in 2022 and began finding the freedom to be more creative and on my own time. I was then faced with an internal struggle. I wanted to leave my cozy day job and be a full time entrepreneur but I didn’t know how to navigate it. After months of deliberating and coaching from a highly sought after coach, I gave my 2 weeks notice at my full time job to pursue full time entrepreneurship. It was huge risk. I left behind job security, a cushy salary with a bonus, health insurance and my tenure. But it was a risk worth taking. I found myself!! I found happiness in having freedom in my schedule, I found happiness in managing my own sales process, I found happiness in being my own boss and working whenever! I do work more now than I did before but it doesn’t feel like work to me. It’s truly become a passion
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Over the last 7 years, I spent lending my expertise in business, sales, and leadership to the staffing industry. I appreciated the education and real-life experience it allowed me to gain. During my tenure with them, I generated millions of revenue growth year over year. While providing those services, I began finding a passion for entrepreneurship and freedom. I knew my ambition and hustle would allow me to win and I launched my own specialty contracting company, Elite Overhead Garage Doors Inc. I stepped out on faith in September of 2022 to pursue entrepreneurship full-time!
At Elite, we have tailored our services to residential and commercial garage door needs including repairs, installations, and maintenance packages. We have been in business 9 months, and we have proven ourselves to be trustworthy, knowledgeable, and market leaders! Today, after a year in business, we have several corporate commercial contracts and have completed over 400 repairs in Eastern NC. Our technician is my husband and I know he works hard daily to keep operations and proven excellent top of mind. Today, while running my core business and living my life to the fullest, I am pursuing another passion of coaching women to success through personal development. In the coaching programs, I teach women how to start a business, overcome life’s challenges, Leadership skills, Networking & Marketing to success, and Building confidence. I have even written and published my debut book called “Soaring Higher: 5 ways to Find motivation and Take Off” to help women who may have felt stuck like I did.
I want my current friends/family/followers to know that I pride myself on excellence and I want to ensure I give 100% or more daily. I want to help in any way I can. I have a story that is intriguing and inspiring to most and I would love to be able to share that inspiration with others.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I have to give credit to several organizations. When we started our business we were members of a group called Business Builders. We didn’t have a customer base but I knew with the backing of other local business owners and their reputations that we could begin to build our business based on referrals. Once we started our first several customers were our members in the organization and has now expanded to over 30 counties and 400 customers in our area.
We recognized the need for honest work, on-time delivery and integrity in our area and that is what we stand on. Our technicians work quickly and efficiently but also give the customer the time and effort that is needed to ensure our customers are happy! Customer service builds a reputation over time and we’ve done just that.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Believe it or not, we did not use any funding for our business. When we started, we started with $0.00. We began advertising and saving every penny we could to ensure we had the backing to fund tools, vehicle, location/warehouse etc. As we began to grow that pocket, we began adding to our business little by little. Now we are fully functioning and still have not used any additional funding to support our business.
