We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jesus Luviano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jesus, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of my most meaningful projects is Huetamo Internacional in my hometown of Huetamo, Michoacán, Mexico. This initiative allowed me to bring my international experience back to offer local youth opportunities many, including myself, didn’t have early on. We collaborated with top model agencies and high-fashion models to scout and expose aspiring talent to industry professionals at national and international levels.
What makes this project unique is its focus on inclusivity—offering chances to all, not just the privileged. Having worked in the entertainment industry, I know the importance of giving back, and Huetamo Internacional was all about empowering others to follow their dreams, regardless of their background. It wasn’t just about modeling and fashion, but about providing a platform for local talent to shine. I’m proud to have helped others take their first step.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
What sets me apart is my passion for fashion, live performance, and modeling, combined with years of experience in choreography and production. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with top industry names and artists, which has shaped my expertise and professionalism. My focus on innovation, inclusion, and supporting emerging talent—especially through my Huetamo Internacional project—drives my work. My mission is to break barriers, empower others, and create opportunities for everyone, ensuring that my impact goes beyond the runway and the stage.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
A common challenge many creatives face is the expectation to work for little or no compensation, not just from productions but also from those who believe talent should be freely given. While passion for the craft is essential, it’s important to recognize the years of education and effort invested in developing these skills. Creatives often go above and beyond, yet their work is undervalued, with little to no compensation. While volunteering has its place, it’s essential that people understand the value of creative professionals’ time and expertise. Fair compensation and respect are not just deserved—they are necessary for a sustainable industry.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve learned that while persistence is important, it’s not always necessary to endure stagnant environments. If growth isn’t possible, it’s wise to seek new opportunities that align with your long-term vision and values. This shift has helped me prioritize growth and recognize that moving on can be the most strategic choice.
