We were lucky to catch up with Jessy Covets recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
For me, taking a risk is a testament to my unwavering commitment to my creative goals. It means acknowledging that failures are not roadblocks but rather stepping stones toward achieving my artistic aspirations. When I made the bold decision to leave the familiar east coast behind and venture into the unpredictable world of Los Angeles, I knew it was a substantial risk. However, deep within, I felt a profound sense of purpose, and I couldn’t envision any other path forward. This move has since proven to be the most exhilarating risk I’ve ever taken and an essential part of my journey towards success. Stepping out of my comfort zone has allowed me to gather invaluable experiences and insights, enriching my artistic path in ways I couldn’t have foreseen. This interview is a platform for me to share my fearless approach to life and art, underscoring the idea that taking calculated risks with unwavering determination can lead us to extraordinary and transformative destinations.
Jessy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began my musical journey at the age of 5, learning to play the violin, clarinet, piano, and guitar, and my passion for music only grew from there. Singing became a significant part of my life around the age of 10. I firmly believe that self-discipline is an expression of self-love, and I’ve made it a mission to combat distractions like alcohol and procrastination that hinder our path to success. My approach centers on the power of positive thinking and visualization, asking and praying for what you desire while wholeheartedly believing you already possess it. The core of my message is that self-belief is the key to unlocking success, a skill we must nurture daily. Mental health awareness and self-love are the ultimate cheat codes to triumph in any endeavor. I wear multiple hats in the industry, crafting songs for TV & FILM, producing for commercials, TV, and movies, and pursuing my career as a recording artist, singer, and songwriter. What sets me apart is the authenticity and uniqueness I bring to my work, infused with genuine cultural influences. Just as I take pride in my craft, I encourage everyone to embrace their individuality and artistic vision. I believe my skill and vision are one-of-a-kind, and I’m driven to share my passion with the world. Above all, I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that my art is a reflection of my dedication to self-growth and the belief that our creativity can shape the world in remarkable ways.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my view, fostering a thriving creative ecosystem involves promoting self-awareness and kindness not only within the artists and creatives themselves but also within society as a whole. Society can best support artists and creatives by recognizing and valuing the essential role that art and creativity play in our culture. This begins with providing accessible education and resources to nurture artistic talents from a young age, ensuring that aspiring artists have the opportunity to explore and develop their creative skills.
Moreover, society should prioritize mental health awareness and support systems for artists, acknowledging the unique challenges they face in their pursuit of creativity. This includes reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues and providing affordable access to mental health services. I believe by learning about our triggers and early childhood we can decode what makes us uncomfortable and why. This helps in so many aspects from stage performance to songwriting and is a crucial element to freedom in expression.
I also believe that creating spaces and platforms for artists to showcase their work and collaborate with others is crucial and should receive support from financial backers who want to see the world’s vibrancy. Supporting local art initiatives, galleries, theaters, and music venues can help creative communities flourish, thereby providing opportunities for young artists who may not have had the chance to pursue their dreams due to financial disadvantages, etc. Another essential step in sustaining a thriving creative ecosystem is to offer funding, grants, and fair compensation for artists’ work.
Ultimately, promoting a culture of empathy, respect, and kindness toward artists and creatives is essential. Encouraging individuals to value and appreciate the arts, whether through attending performances, purchasing art, or engaging with creative content, can contribute to a more supportive and thriving creative environment. By recognizing the intrinsic value of art and nurturing the well-being of those who create it, society can truly champion the arts and empower artists to flourish.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
