We recently connected with Jessy Chaheme and have shared our conversation below.
Jessy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I sat down with my daughters and I had written many names and them I asked for their opinions , we had like 50 names and we narrowed it down to the Magical Atelier That was the name
Because when children do open ended art it’s their ideas they are expressing it’s their art
Not the teachers, not the parents’ art…
It’s theirs!
When they create, that’s magical !
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I think what it takes to be successful is standing by what you believe, taking a risk. Success is about doing something you’re love and you know you’re good at it In my case I know what children love because I have experienced for that past 25 years in my career with them . For example you give children a little cup with water , some brushes , some paint and paper .. they start mixing , experimenting
Which is what they re suppose to be doing .
success is about being genuine and making the children’s and parent s experience wonderful .
It’s the process nit the product that’s important .
Inspiring others too it’s hard art is success because parents then understand how valuable art is for kids but it is for adults as well
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One of my hero’s Is one of my favorite singer song writer from Spain José Luis Perales
He is a poet and many of his songs are about love
I grew up listening to his songs
Poetry to me is magical , it can say so much with few words
He’s my hero because he had inspired me with his music
Despite some challenges i had to overcome at times
He’s music was there and helped me pull through
I’m
Resilient
Others have helped me
I Can help others too
I recently went to his concert and there he was on stage my hero .
He’s loved my many all over Latin America abs the states
I admire his gift and I Thank him for inspiring so many people
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Because I’m a teacher and have a child development background and psychology I can work with toddlers preschoolers and school age because I know development and because I’m an art teacher and our art is creative art, coming from the child’s perspective, not the adults. We know what children love to do
Our art studios focus is process not product
We value their ideas their creations
That’s what’s different
That’s why I’m all about hospitality , we offer snacks for the children and parents . Those are free
I think that comes from my Latin culture ,when a guests comes into our home you offer something , coffee or water etc
There’s something so welcoming and beautiful about that . It’s as if when guests enter our studio they can feel comfortable and relaxed . It’s our little Paris I’m the studio , parents and children can go to Paris for a bit . We are giving that Parisian experience
