We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessika Joy Certeza a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jessika Joy, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The story behind Joy Events and Creations is that we aim to have our couples be a guest at their own wedding. That they can fully trust us from the time they booked until day of where they feel completely at ease and stress-free. We strive for them to have the best day of their lives!
We love seeing their reactions when their vision come to life!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I officially decided to become a wedding planner back in November 2020. Throughout the years of working for corporate america, I found myself unhappy and felt that the work I was doing was unfulfilling. I wanted a creative output and didn’t realize that this was something that would change my life until I decided to finally go for it. It’s been one of the biggest blessings God has given me!
Starting a business was tough and it had its ups and downs but throughout all that, I learned that everything happens for a reason and to keep pushing through.
Our clients are all amazing! I think one of the biggest achievement in this field is having the couples fully trust us. We can only be as successful as our clients allow us to be so allowing us to do our jobs, valuing our opinions, and trusting us is the top 3 things we ask for from all of our couples.
This year, I decided to officially partner with Mary Grace Bongolan to be part of the Joy Events family. She has been helping me with weddings and have been an amazing addition to the Joy Events and Creations team! We plan to grow this business to its full potential and are thankful for all the support you have given us!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Having a business and starting it out on your own is tough. I was so excited to grow my business but I realized that I can’t do all of this on my own. I burnt out having to work on weddings and work full time. Mary has been an amazing addition to Joy Events. We’ve known each other for almost 15 years and throughout the years I’ve known her, she has been someone I can fully trust and be myself with.
My husband and I are trying to start our family and with treatments, its been physically/mentally exhausting and I’m really thankful to be able to lean on Mary to take charge and allow myself to process the changes my body is going through.
This year, our goal is to allow Joy Events to grow to its full potential and make not only our clients wedding dream come true but OUR DREAMS COME TRUE!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think I have to always remind myself that QUALITY is always better than QUANTITY. The beginning of my wedding journey, I’ve always wanted to book many clients as I can and not realizing that in the end it can cause a burn out. It did. At the end of the wedding season, I was unmotivated and didn’t know what direction I wanted to go in.
This year we have limited openings with weddings allowing us to fully focus on our clients prepare to have the best day while allowing us to fill our cups!
