We recently connected with Jessie Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Jessie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I knew I wanted to be a director ever since I was a kid, and I say director very loosely. I was into more than watching movies, I was also interested in the process of how they were made. My dad would explain to me how the behind the scenes process worked and it was always interesting hearing these stories. This feeling of wanting to be a filmmaker stayed with me going into my teenage years. My parents gave me this picture camera that had a 15 sec recording feature. I went crazy with it. I made movies with my friends every day and I even learned video editing at a young age. I became known in high school as “the guy that makes movies.” My high school at the time didn’t offer any film classes but I knew it was what I wanted to do for a living. I truly believe you can do anything you want if you set your mind to it, and thats why I felt this was a worthwhile endeavor. I knew that I could figure out the ropes of this business and find a way to make it happen. Although I have found my way in the business and I continue to work on big budget movies with high profile celebrities, I still dont feel like i have succeeded. I think the opinion of success is different for everyone. For me I am learning more and more everyday. I am always pushing myself to do the next best thing. I push myself from movie to movie, project to project and continue to grow my clientele. In my honest opinion, to say Ive succeeded, is to put a peak on my performance. Although I truly love where I am at in life right now, I sure hope I haven’t peaked.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Jessie Garcia. I’m a Director/Editor always looking for different ways to do the next big thing. Hands-on Producer effective at bringing projects from concept to reality. Expert in personal and project management with a passion for turning creative ideas into TV shows/movies/magazines. My goal is to entertain and inspire. I am a creative visual storyteller. I view life through camera lenses.
I got into this industry by doing some research. I looked at other people in the industry and saw what they were doing. After talking with a few people I followed the common steps they took and did the same thing. I started by taking any job in the industry I could get, I literally said yes to everything just to be a part of productions. After learning the industry for a few years, I broke away from working for other people and took it upon myself to start my own company.
I started off by making small music videos. After a while this lead to small commercials. Continuing to create content, my jobs budgets started getting bigger and I started getting bigger clients as well.
One thing that sets me apart from others is I can make things happen. I do not like to take no for an answer and I constantly look for alternatives to solve problems.
One of the things I am I am most proud of is that I set monthly/yearly goals for myself and I constantly continue to meet those goals. Goals such as working with certain clients and celebrities. One of my goals was to work on a superbowl commercial before I turned 30 and I was able to meet that goal.
One thing I want my clients/followers/fans to know about me is im just a normal person from a small one highschool town. I set goals for myself, goals most people would see as impossible, and I make them happen. I truly set my mind to everything I do and give it 200% everytime. I truly believe you can do anything and this is something I like to show.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Resources I wish I knew about earlier in my creative journey would be social media, such as twitter and instagram. Not some much know about them earlier but actually having access to those when I was growing up. When I was getting started in my filmmaking process, social media didn’t really exist. We really had to show off our work the old fashion way. These days it’s so much easier to put yourself out there and meet new clients via social media. Even to this day I feel like people dont use social media to its full potential.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As silly as this may sound, but one of goals that consistently drives my journey is wanting to shoot a music video for the artist Post Malone. I find his music videos fascinating and artistic. I think its cool that not only does he make music but also star in movies as well. He seems like someone extremely fun to work with. Ive worked with people who associate with him and I am just trying to find that way in at the moment. It’s a pretty extreme goal to reach for, but I haven’t given up yet, and everyday I continue to push my way towards that goal.
