We were lucky to catch up with Jessie And Crystal Root recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jessie and Crystal thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Crystal and I were meant for the stage, even before we met. She dazzled with her animal acts and vocal talent in the circus, while I brought my experience as a show producer, performer, and actor in the Haunted Attraction industry. Our mutual love for the Circus Sideshow made us a perfect match, both on stage and as a couple.
Our early years were tough. We battled homelessness and severe addiction, creating a path of self-destruction. Yet, amidst the darkness, we shared a dream: to escape our self-made prison and create our own circus. With the support of family and friends, our recovery journey began in Kansas City in January 2020. We found a place to get sober, jobs, and a fresh start. Dark Nightmares Haunted Attraction hired us to build props and gave us the chance to create a new circus stunt show, allowing us to live our dream.
There was no single “Eureka” moment. The Schitt Show emerged from our experiences, hardships, addiction, and recovery. We always knew the stage was our home, but we had to get sober to truly deserve it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Jessie has spent a decade perfecting his skills as a fire breather, human blockhead, glass walker, and circus stuntman. His natural confidence and comedic flair make him an excellent ring leader.
I’ve been singing my entire life, and Jessie says it comes as naturally to me as breathing. Becoming a circus stuntwoman has been hard work and challenging, but learning the metaphysical arts of tarot cards and palm reading has been incredibly rewarding.
Over the past five years, we have worked tirelessly to create a show that is enjoyable for all ages. Whether it’s a kid’s birthday party or a bachelor or bridal party, we bring over an hour of comedy, magic, singing, fire performances, and circus stunts. We love seeing people have fun.
We offer a complete party service, working within your budget to customize the length and type of circus show you want. We take pride in delivering a show you can enjoy repeatedly. Our performances are ever-changing as we continuously learn new stunts, tricks, gags, music, and fun!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Our ultimate goal with The Schitt Show is to become a full-time traveling circus, reviving the magic of the traveling circus in small-town America. We aim to bring live entertainment to communities across the country with a big tent and a diverse group of circus performers from all walks of life. By doing so, we hope to breathe new life into a cherished piece of American entertainment history, deeply woven into the hearts and memories of many. We want a new generation to experience the enchantment of a bygone era.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Pursuing your passion is truly a gift. The work may be demanding and the hours long, but we wouldn’t trade it for anything. As someone once said, “If you’re doing what you were born to do, there’s no such thing as suffering.”
Our greatest reward comes from the smiles and laughter, the joy and happiness we bring to people’s faces, and the lasting memories we create. Happiness is healing, and it rewards us just as much as those we entertain.
