Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Woodall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My family is my whole world! There are three girls that fill our home with dancing, singing, and messy crafts. Sure, it’s hard but it is a lot of fun.
2015 was a year that changed my life forever. My best friend, grandmother and cornerstone of our family was diagnosed with brain cancer. I remember sitting by her bed singing and playing guitar as her toes danced in rhythm. She is no longer with us but there is a photograph. It’s an image I took of my grandmother from behind my guitar. She was my cheerleader and biggest fan. The picture is blurry but to me, it’s priceless. You don’t realize how important a photograph is until it’s the only thing you have left.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Have you ever thought about time passing by? As I watch my kids grow older, I realize time is the biggest thief of all. Days pass by us like sand in our hands, but I like to think that I can freeze time. We will never get these days back, but we will be able to flip through an heirloom album and remember. We have the opportunity to remember with stories, laughter and tears of joy. Jessica Woodall Photography is more than a photography service, it’s a boutique experience. From the first point of contact to the hanging of the prints on your wall, I hope you feel less like a client and more like a familiar friend.
Because we are good friends, I will be able to catch the natural, candid and joyful images! I will pose you to capture the portraits that grandma wants, then ask you questions to help you relax and laugh. Those are the shots you want hanging on your wall!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I found myself needing some extra funds for my kids’ Christmas presents, so I came up with the idea of doing photography at a Christmas tree farm. I’ve had a passion for photography for years, and I thought this could be a way to earn some additional income through these mini sessions. It turned out people really appreciated the photos, and that opened up more opportunities for me. I ended up photographing a wedding that spring and organizing additional sessions during the season.
Unfortunately, as time went on, my day job started to interfere with my photography gigs. I realized I was missing out on potential opportunities because of it. That’s when I made the decision to take photography more seriously and transition into it full-time.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The most effective way to generate leads for my photography business is through SEO. Previously, I would have credited social media, but since investing in SEO, Google has become my top source for attracting new clients.
