We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Wolf a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Quality control is a challenge almost every entrepreneur has had to focus on when growing – any advice, stories or insight around how to best ensure quality is maintained as your business scales?
Starting a business is extremely hard. In the beginning you have a clear idea of what you want to do and the people you want to serve. When the pressure to make money to survive the business seeps in, you get into a panic of you just want business to survive. I learned that keeping the focus on the quality of the clientele you wish to serve to preserve the energy of the space I was trying to create was the most important thing. Which meant, having to stay strong to then purpose of the facility because the people who do not align with that will naturally fall off, and you will begin to attract the clients that really do align with your goals and will bring a positive and more loving and committed energy into your space. Also, saving you a lot of headaches in the long run.

Jessica , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Although I am from
Back east, I grew up in Orange County. I dance with ballet conservatories as a child and in the competitive dance scene. I graduated with my BFA in Dance Performance from Chapman University, booked my agent and went to North Hollywood. I was very fortunate to have some incredible industry experiences in live shows, music videos, companies, television and more. I then began to also find my own creative voice in choreography. I am now a nationally ranked choreographer and master teacher. I care deeply about working with dancers and their whole body health and well being. So much so, that I earned a Master of Science in Health and Wellness degree. So I can tap into what it takes to push elite level athletes and artists while also harnessing and supporting their human self. I married my high school sweetheart and we have three beautiful children, and two cute little bunnies. I love my job and training athletes and artists every day.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think always trying to stay true to your honesty and integrity. When starting a business and trying to build a clientele you really need to stay true to what kind of space you are trying to create. This can lead to some hard conversations, releasing of clients which means a loss of money, and doing whatever you need to do to make sure the business and the core values of who you are can be in alignment. I have learned along the way so far that the more I stay true to what I am trying to create the more it attracts the clients and faculty that also align with the vision and brings a more peaceful and productive atmosphere. I also follow through with my word and try to always be a clear communicator up front of expectations and tasks at hand.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My senior year of high school my parents were getting a divorce. We sold the house, and being the youngest of three kids I was the only kid still living at home at the time. My mother and I lived in a hotel room with our cat for majority of my senior year. I had to start working, while also competing full time at my studio and being completely involved in all things at my high school. I booked my first professional job of dancing at Disneyland during this time. It brought so much joy into my life during a dark period and really helped me build the confidence of not only could I dance, but I could find ways to support myself financially while pursuing what I love. There was nothing better than watching rows of people smile back at you while you dance every day. Owning a business presents difficult situations every single day, I am grateful for the tools and community I have that help me continue to push through.
