We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Von Feldt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Hi Jessica , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Like most kids, I was fascinated with creating from an early age. Then when I was 12, I inherited my great-grandmother’s collection of art books and supplies. Those keepsakes of creativity inspired me to further my exploration of art.
Jessica , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As an artist who has worked on a lot of commissions, I love creating personal and unique works for my client, be it a pet portrait, a favorite landscape, or something abstract that inspires them. This has given me keen insights into a number of art forms. In the last 5 years, I have begun to focus more on series that inspire and delight me personally. It’s such a joy when this kind of work speaks to others as well.
Nature is my main inspiration. I love embellishing intricate details with the unseen (subtle energies and etheric components) with the intent of sharing tranquility and wonder with others, so that they can feel our profound connection to the natural world.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Society tends to overvalue professions that are paid with a salary, some folks would suggest my art could only be a hobby and warned me that if I dared try to earn money with art, I’d become a “starving artist.” I started taking on these limiting beliefs and focused on hustling, suppressing my creative energies. And then I would feel like I was denying a big part of myself, which of course, makes a person unhappy and unfulfilled. Over time I grew less interested in others’ thoughts and more interested in following the urge to create. It has been rewarding in all ways imaginable.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best way to support artists and creatives is to take intentional time to appreciate art, to ask questions of the artists, and to share what speaks to you most. Social media makes it incredibly easy to experience and support the arts. Going to shows can be super encouraging for artists. Creating an art show is very personal and vulnerable for most of us, so get out and mingle at these special events, which will enrich your life and encourage artists to keep creating.
