We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Tucker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jessica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I’m going to pivot into an idea and business I created outside of JTucker Consulting.
The Genesis of SWAGGAS
The idea for SWAGGAS was born from a personal experience that profoundly impacted me. One clear night, after spending the day at the mall with friends, I found myself alone at a bus station. My friends had left with a group of boys I didn’t know, leaving me frightened and stranded. I decided to take a bus to my sister’s home, but she wasn’t there, and I was unfamiliar with the bus routes to get back home. I ended up waiting for hours on my sister’s back porch while my family, unaware of my whereabouts, worried about my safety. This experience highlighted the critical need for better child safety solutions, both for public spaces and during everyday activities.
Context and Circumstances
The modern world, with its technological advancements, seems to have overlooked a critical area: the comprehensive and secure protection of our children. This realization ignited a passion within me to bridge this gap and provide a solution that could offer peace of mind to parents and guardians.
The Eureka Moment
As I delved deeper into the issue, I discovered that there was a significant lack of integration between physical and digital child safety solutions. Many products addressed one aspect but failed to offer a holistic approach. This was the eureka moment for me – the realization that a comprehensive, integrated solution that combined advanced technology for both physical and online safety could be a game-changer.
The Logic Behind the Endeavor
The logic behind SWAGGAS was simple yet powerful. In an era where technology is omnipresent, why not harness its potential to create a robust child safety system? I envisioned a suite of products that included GPS-enabled wearables, a secure mobile app, and advanced security features like Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) and real-time alerts. The goal was to provide a seamless experience that safeguarded children both offline and online.
Solving an Unaddressed Problem
Through extensive research, I discovered that while there were many child safety products in the market, none offered the level of security and integration that I envisioned. The existing solutions were fragmented and often lacked the advanced technological safeguards necessary to provide true peace of mind. SWAGGAS aimed to fill this void by offering an all-encompassing solution that leveraged cutting-edge technology to protect children from various threats.
Unique Approach
What sets SWAGGAS apart is our unique approach to integrating multiple layers of security and leveraging the latest technological advancements. Our partnership with NASA and Space Prize VIP allows us to incorporate state-of-the-art technology such as PUFs, nanomaterials, and geofencing into our products. This not only enhances the security features of our devices but also provides a level of sophistication that is unmatched in the market.
The Excitement and Drive
The most exciting aspect of SWAGGAS is the potential to make a real difference in the lives of families. The thought of creating a solution that could prevent the panic and fear that I experienced during my niece’s disappearance drives me every day. Knowing that we are working on something that has the potential to protect children and give parents peace of mind is incredibly fulfilling.
In conclusion, the idea for SWAGGAS stemmed from a deeply personal experience and a clear gap in the existing child safety solutions. Our mission to provide an integrated, technologically advanced solution is what sets us apart. We are driven by the belief that every child deserves to be safe, and every parent deserves peace of mind.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting from Tech Consulting to Creating SWAGGAS: A Dream and an Urgent Mission
In my career, I have always been deeply embedded in the world of technology. As a software engineer and technologist, I spent years working in tech consulting, helping businesses leverage technology to solve complex problems and streamline their operations. However, a pivotal moment in my life came when I was on a business trip in Paris.
One night, I had a vivid and compelling dream. In this dream, I saw a vision of a future where children could move freely and safely in their environments, equipped with advanced technology that ensured their safety and provided peace of mind to their parents. This vision was not just a fleeting thought; it was an urgent call to action that I could not ignore.
Upon waking, I was filled with a sense of purpose and clarity that I had never experienced before. I knew I had to pivot from my comfortable and successful career in tech consulting to pursue this vision. The urgency to protect children and create a safer world for them became my driving force.
Returning home, I started laying the groundwork for what would eventually become SWAGGAS. I began researching the latest advancements in GPS technology, nanomaterials, and encryption methods. I reached out to experts and potential partners, including NASA and Space Prize VIP, to explore how we could integrate their cutting-edge technologies into our products.
This pivot was not without its challenges. Leaving behind a stable career to venture into the unknown was daunting. However, the passion and conviction I felt for SWAGGAS kept me motivated. I knew that the safety and well-being of children were causes worth every effort and sacrifice.
Creating SWAGGAS has been a journey of innovation and impact. We developed GPS-enabled wearables that provide real-time location tracking and advanced security features, such as Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs). Our mobile app offers educational resources and connects seamlessly with our devices, empowering parents and children with the tools they need to stay safe.
This pivot has allowed me to merge my technical expertise with my humanitarian goals. The dream I had in Paris was not just a vision—it was the beginning of a mission to protect and educate the next generation. Today, SWAGGAS is at the forefront of child safety technology, and I am proud of the progress we have made and the lives we are impacting.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Unlearning the Myth of Perfection: A Journey Towards Progress
As a software engineer, technologist, and humanitarian, I always prided myself on my ability to solve complex problems with precision and efficiency. Early in my career, I believed that achieving perfection in every project was not just possible but necessary. This mindset drove me to set incredibly high standards for myself and my work. I spent countless hours refining code, tweaking designs, and obsessing over the minutiae, all in the pursuit of flawlessness.
This pursuit of perfection extended into my personal projects as well. When I embarked on the journey to create SWAGGAS, my dream-driven mission to protect children using advanced technology, I carried this perfectionist mentality with me. I wanted every aspect of our GPS-enabled wearables and educational platform to be impeccable before launching. I believed that releasing anything less than perfect would undermine our credibility and mission.
However, as the project progressed, I began to realize that this relentless pursuit of perfection was more of a hindrance than a help. The tech industry moves at a rapid pace, and the needs of our target audience—parents and children—were immediate. We couldn’t afford to wait for perfection while children’s safety was at stake. This realization forced me to confront and unlearn a deeply ingrained lesson: the myth of perfection.
Unlearning the need for perfection was not easy. It required a fundamental change in my thinking and approach. I had to embrace the idea that progress, even if incremental, was more valuable than waiting for an elusive perfect state. I learned to prioritize functionality and user feedback over flawless execution. This shift in mindset had a profound impact on SWAGGAS.
The lesson I had to unlearn—letting go of perfection—taught me the true value of progress and adaptability. It underscored the importance of being responsive to user needs and the power of iterative development. Today, I approach every project with a focus on delivering value, learning from feedback, and continuously improving. This lesson has not only benefited SWAGGAS but has also enriched my overall approach to problem-solving and innovation in the tech industry.
