We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Snow. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Alright, Jessica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project has been the creation (ongoing) of my entire oeuvre. Many people have heard of a sigil – a sign or symbol imbued with magical energy. I consider all of the audio, videos, books and experiences I’ve created to be a hypersigil – a collection of art-works filled with magical meaning and supernatural power.
This hypersigil has not only expanded and benefited my little life experience, but also the lives of many others.
From when I was very young, I felt magic rippling under the surface of all things. Over time, I found ways to awaken and activate my relationship to that magic. In 2011 I had a spiritual experience that offered me a revelation – that I had been in a little bubble, meditating and making magic in a solitary way. From that point on, I have dedicated myself to making sure others have doorways into the magical spaces I feel so at home in.
In response to the decidedly non-magical overculture we live within, every thing I’ve ever made has a specific secret charm at its core – it all exists to reawaken us to and reconnect us with to the magic of life itself.
Jessica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What if I told you we (as a society) have messed up the word meditation? That, instead of a dry chore, meditation is a beautiful, life-enhancing, extremely empowering art?
I make magical, meditative media and experiences – live events, audio, videos, books, imagery – to reconnect us to the shimmering, infinite web of energy and information that connects all things.
I never set out to be this type of artist, my degree is a Bachelor of Science in Instructional Technology. However, as I developed spiritually and kept making media and experiences, to paraphrase Fiona Apple – “the road just rolled out behind me”.
What sets my work apart from others is that I am able to create meditations and other spiritual experiences for people that actually work, and gasp… are pleasurable! I am pretty sure this is because I am a person and not an app – so I am a better guide to the inner and upper realms.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being the type of artist that I am, is hearing from others about the magical effects of the work I’ve created.
I have a niched-in, very bright, very beautiful audience, many of whom have been with me for over a decade. My business model is very much “1,000 true fans” and my main marketing is that someone experiences my work, loves it and recommends it to a friend.
I am very lucky to have direct communication with those who enjoy my work. In a world that feels increasingly surface-level shallow, I get heart-felt, very inspiring messages daily from folks around the world who are in deep communion with the hypersigil and its many benefits. These messages, ripe with nuanced evidence of magic being made, are worth more to me than money.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I am on a mission to reawaken the magic within us and within our world. I feel access to this natural magic is our birthright and a pathway towards the solutions to many of the world’s problems.
As I said before, our society has taken all the magic (and pleasure) out of meditation and other spiritual practices.
Everything I make – whether it is a live experience, or an audio experience, or an imagery-based experience, or a magical-book experience – is made to connect us to something greater than ourselves. This connection, I believe, is not only extremely pleasurable, but also is a vital part of being human; and… is paradoxically extremely helpful to the whole world AND extremely empowering for our individual selves. It brings benefit and works beautifully on both the individual and collective levels.
