We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Schugardt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
When starting early on in my Reiki & Spiritual Business, I took many chances on myself. During the pandemic I took a chance on running my business full time at my home. After having time off from my current teaching profession I already has a Reiki business that was already in the works. I noticed a need in my industry. Many people were seeking a safe space in person for healing. A space where they could go, relax and feel like they were seen and supported. After taking some time to map out how I would do this, I decided to take the leap and create a space in my home for clients. I wasn’t sure how it would all work out or if it would be a success but I knew within my heart it was what my heart and spirit were guiding me towards. I ended up having a consistent cliental and found myself just so grateful that I took a chance on my vision for my brand and business. I learned so much during this time period. I eventually moved my space to a yoga studio where I continued to thrive and grow my community. I just want to share with you that there is never a perfect time to go after your desires. You just have to take those steps. It may not be perfect. You may make mistakes. But it’s always about leading with your intention/ your mission and vision for what you feel called to create or bring into this world.
Jessica , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started my spiritual business in 2017. This is when I launched my first online course on manifestation. I started to teach women about how to manifest their desires and live a life they were in love with. I always had a heart and desire to help others and make an impact. I just didn’t realize how much going down this path would really change who I was and the way I showed up in this world. I started off my personal development journey in 2014 and started investing in a coach in 2016. Little did I know how much my life would change. It has brought me here to where I am today. I started investing in spiritual programs, courses and certifications. It allowed me to work through deep rooted fears around my worth and helped me stand in my truth and power as a leader. I started to learn about energy healing, the subconscious mind and the sacred teaching of the divine feminine. It was through my own healing and inner work, I knew that I wanted to help other women who were also on this journey to freedom and liberation. To help them see how valued, loved and needed they are. To help them heal through religious trauma and generational programming. Some years later I became yoga certified and started to integrate Reiki and Yoga and started teaching yoga classes such as Restorative Yoga and Vinyasa Flow. I have found the sacredness of yoga, the philosophy of the practice, understanding how to use breath and movement as a valuable way to cultivate strength, spiritual growth, pleasure and community.
My work is unique as I help tie in energy work, yoga, the divine feminine and leadership. I focus mostly on women seeing their role in the collective and empower them to live a life of purpose and intention. In addition I support men in my yoga community as well. I lead events and value the importance of community and connection and will be soon offering retreats in the near future. My events have been transformative for my clients and have helped them cultivate peace, love and safety in the hear and now.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
One of the really valuable and impactful trainings I did early on my entrepreneur journey was when I took the course, ” Spirit Junkie” with Gabby Bernstein. It helped me define my role as a spiritual teacher, healer and leader. It helped me understand how we all can develop our own definition of spirituality and it doesn’t have to look like others. It really empowered me to release my fears around letting go of my past religious trauma and helped open up doors for me to continue thriving and evolving as a spiritual teacher.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think one of the ways my business started to grow was through word of mouth and showing up with authenticity and passion. When others sense your true passion for your work, it becomes contagious. When others see you genuinely care about them and make them feel seen, safe and supportive they will come back to you over and over again. I believe it’s important to be true to who you are and don’t try to be like others. I also credit my incredible teachers on my journey that have inspired me and guided me towards what my gifts are and helping me see who I truly am. It’s through building connection and community I was able to grow and build a business I love.
