We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Sauls a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I would have to say writing my first book. After years and years of abuse and struggles, I took a leap of faith and decided to write a book of inspiration. I had recently been through a world wind of years and need a way to release. I felt like with my career as a salon owner that me being brave enough to talk about some of the things I had been through would help others to talk about things as a way to healing. This world is a dark place and we need light. I just felt that if I could help one person, I did my job.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am an artist at heart. At a young age I began creating and through the years I understood I was a server. I love to help people and love making them feel beautiful. After years in the hospitality business I took a leap of faith and went back to school and received my Masters in Cosmetology. With in the first year I took another leap of faith and opened my now Award winning salon. With in the first year of opening my personal life tuned upside down, My mother fell sick and passed away shortly after. A few years after that I decide to write my first book and am now a published writer. I felt that with all the pain in this world If I could find a way in helping people who were hurting I had to find away. As of now I am in school to become a Life Coach for Mental Health.
In my business I see lots of people and if there is a way that I can help, that is what I will do. I love my salon and would not trade it for anything. I just felt that if I had the right training I could help out in a positive way.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, I want to help the hurting, the broken. With My JLUV Lashes business watching my mom pass with stage four cancer, its an awful experience. Woman who have had any chemo or are losing there hair don’t feel pretty. It thought that if I started a eyelash strip brand I could donate to them. I have made a few drops to the Telfair Cancer Center here in Savannah hoping to make someone feel beautiful during a difficult time.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Definitely making someone smile, That is my favorite part, this is a broken world and we all could use some light.
