We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Robinson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission behind my company is to create safe spaces ensure equitable access to mental health for members of the Black community. It is important that my community is served by people who look like them and who can relate to their lived experiences. I also aim to bring light to the intersectionalities of faith and mental health in our community.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name Is Jessica Robinson- Grant and I am a Christian therapist. I’ve been married for 8 years to my Princeton, and most recently I became a mom to our precious daughter, Jael. My life’s journey has been deeply intertwined with serving the mental health needs of the Black community, a calling I’ve passionately pursued for the past 8 years.
In 2021, recognizing a vital need to explore the intersection of faith and mental health, I founded Soul Care Christian Counseling and Consulting. This venture emerged from my conviction to create a nurturing space where these essential elements converge harmoniously.
My academic foundation comprises an undergraduate degree in sociology and a master’s degree in social work. Notably, my master’s thesis centered on the pivotal role of social work within the Black church—a study that continues to shape and guide my professional endeavors today.
Throughout my tenure as a therapist in the Black community, I’ve cultivated a Soul Care therapeutic framework. This framework, rooted in scripture and grounded in a trauma-informed approach, serves as a beacon of holistic care, addressing spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being.
Beyond my role as a therapist, I proudly serve as an associate pastor at Freedom Life Church. This dual role allows me to seamlessly integrate spiritual guidance with professional expertise, fostering a comprehensive approach to healing and restoration.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think the aspect of trust and consistency has helped me to build and maintain my reputation within my community and those whom I serve. I have been serving my community in various capacities for the past 10 years and I strive to do so with compassion, empathy diligence and excellence. I believe all of these have been accomplished and this holds true to my reputation and how I show in various contexts within my community.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My journey has been filled with poverty, abuse, trauma and other difficult life experiences. However, I am proof that there is life after trauma and that post-traumatic growth is attainable. I recall having a session with my therapist and she said something that I will never forget: “You receive the wounds you need”. It was harsh reality, but I knew that I could grow through the wounds I received and trauma I experienced. These experiences brought me to this work and it is the reason why I continue to intentionally hold space for my community. I would say my most recent story of resilience was during my pregnancy. I have done many many hard things, but this was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Pregnancy itself is hard, but when complications are added it makes it even harder. During my 3rd trimester, after 20 hours of being in the hospital from excruciating pain, and doctors not knowing what the issues is, to being told that the diagnosis can lead to my baby being a still birth; I no choice but to be resilient. This diagnosis led me to seeing my OB once per week and nurses coming to my house twice per week to monitor myself and the baby; I had to be strong because I had to bring my baby girl into the world. Following that my baby was in the NICU for 13 days because when she was born she wasn’t breathing on her own and she needed support. Today my baby girl is growing beautifully and she is the most beautiful blessing we have ever received.
