Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Rich. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
Work-life harmony has always been important to me. Over the last 10 years I have been trying to find a balance. After starting my business and other ventures aligned with my purpose, I realized there is no balance and I have to work towards integrating my personal and professional life.
A key to work-life harmony for me is taking vacations. Whether that’s traveling to another state, out of the country or a self-care weekend at a local hotel in the Dallas area, it’s a priority to take time to step away from the hustle and bustle of life.
My advice would be, don’t be afraid to step away as a vacation can positively impact your overall well-being. Don’t be afraid to leave because you think the ship will sink without you. Take this as an opportunity to delegate task and upskill other employees to provide coverage and support, while you are out of the office.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For folks who may not have read about you before, can you please tell our readers about yourself, how you got into your industry / business / discipline / craft etc, what type of products/services/creative works you provide, what problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others. I am a Self-Wellness Coach, empowering women to choose themselves first.
After going through my own healing, self-care and self-love journey in 2020, I discovered my purpose of pouring into others, while setting boundaries to become a better version of myself.
In addition to coaching, I am an author, speaker and podcaster. Services provided are:
• Individual and Group Coaching
• Retreat Host
• Speaker & Panelist
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.
In 2022, I realized I was putting myself in a box and was called to more than just coaching. Here I am, almost two years later, I am empowering women through virtual and in-person events. I am hosting my 2nd event in May, on self-worth, and hosting a women’s retreat in Thailand in August. I’ve launched a podcast and had an opportunity to be a guest speaker and panelist.
I am so proud of myself for realizing my worth and not limiting my purpose and how I can pour into others.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I hired a Social Media Manager in 2022 and it took us 3-4 pivots, before we got it right.
At first, we focused a lot on being a corporate leader and how to develop leadership skills, but did not focus on my passion of self-care and work-life harmony. We went through a phase of following TikTok and trends that other coaches and similar industry individuals were doing. It didn’t feel natural. I didn’t enjoy recording or capturing the content and I was not seeing the engagement. Finally, I told my Social Media Manager, “I just want them to see Jessica. I want them to see how I pour into myself and practice self-care and self-love. I want my audience to see me traveling and enjoying solo dates, while being a leader in corporate America and business owner.” After we shifted the content, and I just showed up without forcing what I was trying to portray, I experienced some of the most engagement in a 12-month period.
I no longer have a social media manager, but me showing up as myself and not following trends, has still positively assisted with engagement, connections and opportunities.
So, for anyone starting their Social Media audience, don’t be afraid to just be you. Authenticity goes a long way and by you or your brand showing up, without being forced, it will attract your right audience.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Vulnerability is helped with my reputation. Being open and honest, about the struggles I face with work-life harmony as a Senior Leader and business owner, helps me be relatable. I share with my platform, when I feel I may be approaching burnout and I need to take a break to pour into myself. I share self-care tips for individuals with busy schedules and I’ve shown consistency over the last few years.
