We recently connected with Jessica R and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica , thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Life is about FAITH, but some may confuse it with RISK. Nobody really knows but “Heir Attire” was once “An HeiressesCloset” back in 2017/2018 & it also had little to no sales 🤣 In 2020 I did a re-branding and changed the name what most know now as HeirAttire LLC. I never stop believing even though I had to invest almost 4000 out of my own money just on clothes to be a boutique that had everything on hand (And I had a hefty amount of inventory). Some may think that’s way too much and some may think that’s petty change, but me? I knew it was me putting my all into it…. I had FAITH and it flourished.
3 1/2 years ago God put an idea in my head about practicing nails. One morning I woke up as a personal banker at Amtrust bank when I was 18 and right when I got my check I looked up a nail supply warehouse because I got this random thought in my head and purchased $400 in nail supplies. Next thing you know I was a full time nail technician within the next couple months. I would say nobody believed in me but I think they just didn’t believe in the idea. When a person hasn’t been in your shoes or knows the situations ins and outs, they will never be able to pour into you (so stop looking for that). If I listened to the coworkers telling me that it wasn’t a smart move… just quitting your job going full-time, or even if I listen to family saying that I needed to find a job, I would not be where I am today; a 21 year old nearing 6 figure woman walking into year 22 in a couple days.
Needless to say to keep it short and sweet, God has a path for you and no outside opinions are necessary to get there.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have a boutique in my suite, I offer nail technician services from manicures to full sets, I offer wig installation services and styling. I also offer all mink lash installation services in all styles and lengths. I took all my experience from over the years working in Nail Salon’s and on my own and putting it all together into my brand @HeirAcrylics. I strive to offer the neatest & cleanest consistent work. Mostly all of my clients have been attracted to me due to my shaping of the nails and my retention of how long they last. I’m also very popular for my boutique @heirattirellc due to the fact that I have the same inventory as the bigger boutiques at a lower cost.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I remember one day waking up being fully booked in the next day waking up and not having anybody…for a couple weeks to be exact. I remember one month a while ago that I had literally only worked about six days out of the whole month. It was the most horrific experience ever and it actually happened twice thankfully not more than that but that was enough for me to learn a lesson.
To pick up the slack I had worked at a nail salon and most entrepreneurs think that they’re too good to work under someone else but to be honest it probably was one of the most beneficial things to where I am today. No I definitely wasn’t proud of it at the time because it made me feel like a failure but when I examine my situation, I was making the same amount of money if not more, fully booked with clients, and learning new styles every day.
The second time this happened was when I relocated to the Broward area when I was originally in Miami Gardens. For a while I had to work from home in my two bedroom apartment, but when you’re a person that uncomfortability really pushes you into the next level you’ll never stay in one place. That’s what makes me resilient:
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I remember one day the well known rapper “Sukiana the goat” made a post about $300 promotion. That was my first time ever paying for promo and when I seen the results I never stopped. I remember sitting down contemplating with my boyfriend at the time and wondering if it was a smart move because it was such a large amount of money to me. But immediately the outcome was great and I gained as many followers as the dollars I spent if not more and I was reimbursed that money ($300) in bookings.
